Trade your stiff, fussy baby for a snuggly, comfortable baby!

These are the main things we see contributing to babies holding on to tension. Many babies are born with a little bit of tension. Birth is rough on little bodies! But we see more and more babies hang on to that tension for the reasons in this post, reasons the people selling you the products and programs won't tell you.

With movement and responsive parenting and babies make progress so quickly! Seeing more red flags or not seeing progress? We'd love to help! With personalized home exercises or a referral to the best provider for your baby's needs, you'll see progress quickly.

❤️ Babies can't be lazy. They either have an ability or they don't.
❤️ Your body was designed to soothe your baby. Non-nutritive sucking has a TON of health benefits.
❤️ Babies don't have the developmental ability to manipulate.
❤️ There is no universal best way to feed every baby. They are unique, and so is your feeding journey.
❤️ "You got this, Mama" is like giving someone who can't swim a high five instead of a life jacket. You need practical, real life support.

Tell us in the comments the most UNhelpful advice you got from a lactation consultant.

Fussy baby? This might be why.

All the gas drops in the world won't help if they're stiff and tense. Newborns should feel snuggly and melt into you. Not stiff, not "strong". If your baby's ribcage can't move easily, digestion is really hard for them.

This is so easy to check at home. Let us know if you try it.

Nurturing our babies as the earth nurtures us ❤️

According to the WHO, human milk saves the lives of over 800,000 children under 5 and almost 100,000 parents every YEAR.

It's renewable, doesn't require livestock to be raised and formula to be processed, reducing GHC emissions.

It connects us to our babies and develops secure emotional attachment for better mental health outcomes for babies and parents alike.

Honor yourself this Earth Day for contributing to a healthier world. Celebrate with your vote to support politicians who understand how valuable and irreplaceable our planet it.

We always get a TON of DMs about this one 😬

Football (or Rugby) hold is commonly recommended by professionals. Large chest? Football. C section? Football. Baby not latching? Football.

But here's the truth. Babies need their entire bodies to feed well. They need a tipped back neck at chest-height, their belly against your belly, open arms, hands touching your skin, spine straight, and their chin touching first with your ni**le pointing to their upper lip. You should have a relaxed body and straight spine for YOUR comfort.

Football curls them in a C-shape around the side and back of your body - away from your chest! Chin tucked, ni**le usually rolled into their mouth by you, breast tissue sandwiched to fit better, you hunched over them. It overrides all their reflexes so the adult is "latching" the baby. Even with twins or a large chest, this is not the only option you have no matter what you were told in the hospital.

And the real story? The FEW times a year we suggest trying football, it's always because there is a latching problem on baby's side. Not yours.

Eating is a survival skill. That’s like being lazy about staying alive. If your baby is being described as lazy, please get a referral because they are probably struggling. For nursing and bottlefeeding we can help as IBCLCs. Solid foods? Go straight to Occupational Therapy.

A lot of people already know they aren’t meant to be a primary pump if you’re pumping routinely, especially not if exclusively pumping. However, that doesn’t mean they don’t have any benefit and that we hate them all. Some are definitely better than others, and some people can get away with using them more than others .. but there can still be some benefits.

If you can’t fit in a needed pumping session unless it’s with a wearable pump, that’s literally saving your milk supply and breastfeeding journey.

Maybe you’re struggling to fit in some needed pumping and a wearable pump a couple times a day makes it more sustainable. We’ve seen it help people who are exclusively pumping go from 6x a day to 8x a day. That helps them be able to give milk to baby for longer which is still worth celebrating.

We find clients often scared to admit they bought a wearable pump, but we promise we don’t hate them. Maybe we hate the cheap crappy ones that just lead to clogged ducts and low milk supply but there can be a time and place for a good wearable pump. before you ask - we aren’t able to make recommendations for you in the comments 😬

Sorry to disappoint if you’ve been relying on this myths to be true 😬😬

1.We’ve come a long way in figuring out sizing for pump flanges. Not having the ni**le touch at all or the random adding of 2-3 mm is going to result in using flanges that are way too big.

2.Babies only move so much milk at a time. They have a limit because their stomachs are only so big so if you have 6-7 oz in your body, a baby simply isn’t going to empty you but a pump could. The statement that a baby is better than a pump also implies that a baby has amazing nursing skills. Add in low muscle tone, poor coordination, tongue tie, torticollis, poor positioning, or a variety of other things that make it harder to move the milk and they might not be able to move milk as well as the crappy knockoff wearable pump you got for super cheap. A good quality pump with a powerful motor and the correct size and shape flanges is pretty dang effective.

Which one of these surprised you the most?

Even doctors miss this.

AIR - aerophagia induced reflux is one of the most common causes of reflux in babies. It's not acid reflux so acid reducing medicine doesn't fix it. They swallow so much air during feedings, it pushes the food up their throat constantly. They're usually grunty, congested, gassy, uncomfortable, and sad.

My son had a birth injury that cause tightness in his neck and shoulder on one side. That made sucking and swallowing hard for him. As soon as I realized that his body was impacting his feeding, everything changed.

If your baby is squeaking, gulping, coughing, clicking, or choking while nursing or taking a bottle, this is happening to them too.

Pepcid 🙅‍♀️ Probiotics

Gut health is way more than adding supplements. Strain, quality, temperature, and gut pH have a huge influence on whether they help or hurt.
