Just talked to the doctor… everything went well. Stent worked this time and no tearing of the aorta. “Couldn’t have gone better,” the doctor said.

Aortic stent placement take two. This time they’re using a high pressure balloon to try to fix the coarctation, which is a fair amount riskier than what they did a month ago. Still expecting things to go well and we’ll keep everyone updated.

Waiting for them to take Tiffany back to the cath lab to correct her coarctation of the aorta. Happy thoughts and kind words much appreciated!

Some people have asked if we have a GoFundMe set up for our needs during this process, and we do! I've been hesitant to start sharing and gathering donations because we're not at the point of transplant yet.

However, expenses are already starting to mount. Bills are coming in from the two hospitals (UK and CAMC) where Tiffany has been evaluated, and we still have one more hospital to go to for an initial evaluation (OSU). There will be regular trips to each of those hospitals throughout the next few months and years, and of course, we have the procedure to correct her heart defect at the end of the month in Lexington, which may also require an overnight hotel stay.

This is going to be an expensive process even well before she is ready and able to have the transplant. Such is the case with healthcare in the United States, and I realize we are not the only ones going through something like this.

Tiffany had her follow-up for her fistula surgery yesterday. Everything is going well with that; it'll be another couple of months before they can use the fistula for dialysis, should that need arise.

Next up, on November 30th, is a procedure to correct a heart defect that Tiffany has. This procedure may end up damaging her kidney to the point where dialysis is needed but has to be done to make sure her heart is in good enough shape for the eventual kidney transplant.

Tiffany is now officially listed for kidney transplant through UK. She’s listed as inactive now until she completes all necessary testing and then will move to active. Time spent as inactive will count toward her wait time on the active list.

At fistula consult appointment. Will have fistula placed for dialysis ahead of actually starting dialysis so it’s ready to go when the time comes.
