"On September 9, 2016, we began one of the most precious, difficult seasons of my life: My father was enrolled in Hospice.

Immediately upon meeting one of the nurses in his home, I knew we had made the right decision. I had spent several years caring for his health, but I was so unsure of how to care for his death. They answered so many questions and gave us so much advice—advice I didn’t even know I needed. My dad was able to go about daily living while he was dying.

Bathing soon became difficult and he was gracious, but I knew having me help was difficult for him. I made one mention during a nursing visit and the next day the most precious lady came to help. She showed him so much grace and compassion and he looked forward to her visits rather than dreading them.
Hospice helped he and I have some difficult conversations about his wishes regarding his death and after. Up until the last three days of his life he was able to make the most of his time and I was able to have a huge burden lifted off my shoulders. They helped me to be a daughter first a caregiver second. Having them here for visits leading up to his time of death was so helpful and I do not have enough words to thank them.

A chaplain came and asked my dad if he wanted to pray, and my father prayed the most beautiful prayer—it was the last one from him I would hear. The day of his death they were with us every minute making things easier for him and for us. He passed right where he wanted, at home, in the glow of the Christmas tree. I would encourage anyone who is considering Hospice don’t wait. I am so thankful they helped me walk this difficult and precious road and I will be forever grateful!"
