Reger Funeral Home & Cremation Services

Reger Funeral Home & Cremation Services Reger Funeral Home and Cremation Services The Reger Funeral Home was founded in 1903 in Martins Ferry, Ohio by Henry Reger (1881-1968). Henry’s son, James H.

During his years as a funeral director, he was also the coroner of Belmont Counts, Ohio. After serving the people of Martins Ferry for 10 years he decided to move to Spencer, West Virginia where he practiced as a licensed funeral director. In 1924 the decision was made to come to Huntington, West Virginia where Henry established the Reger Funeral Home on Jefferson Avenue. Two years later, a move was made to the current location of Adams Avenue. Reger (1903-1986) became licensed a year after the move to Adams Avenue, in 1927. Thus, James became the second generation of Reger’s to serve the people of Huntington. The two quickly established ties to the community and continued to improve the funeral home. In 1948 the Reger’s decided to build a 250 seat chapel that still stands today, improving the quality of service offered to their families. The third generation of funeral directors was established when George E. Reger (1932-1999) attained his funeral directing license in 1957. George served as the President of the West Virginia Funeral Directors Association in 1986 and was named “Funeral Director of the Year” by the West Virginia Funeral Directors Association in 1995. In 1987 the fourth generation of Reger’s began when Patrick J. Reger became licensed. Patrick followed in his father George’s footsteps by serving as the president of the West Virginia Funeral Directors Association in 1996. Starting in 1999 George Michael Reger became a licensed funeral director and joins his brother Patrick on the staff of the Reger Funeral Home. The Reger’s have always enjoyed serving the community in many different ways. Beginning with Henry and continuing down the line of succession they have donated vehicles to the local emergency services and police department. Their community involvement continued in 1998 when the members of the funeral home dedicated a memorial park for veterans, which is located adjacent to the funeral home. Throughout the intervening years, we have made many improvements to the park, in honor of our community's veterans. The oldest family owned and operated funeral home in the Tri-State area, The Reger family still own and operate the funeral home for over four generations.

Joseph Gerard Troisi, Jr.

Joseph Gerard Troisi, Jr., 77 of Barboursville, WV, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on March 18, 2026. Born on February 20, 1949, in Brookyln, NY, Joseph was the second child and first son of the late Joseph G. Troisi, MD and Clarice (Lambert) Troisi. Joe and his four siblings grew up in a multigenerational, multifamily traditional Italian household. He was a member of his parish church, Our Lady of Refuge (Brooklyn, NY) and later St. John's Catholic Church (St. Marys, WV) and received a Jesuit education at Brooklyn Preparatory. In many ways Joe's life mirrored the Jesuit principles of academic excellence, critical thinking, social justice and service of others in pursuit of being a “complete” person. He excelled in Debate and Oratory/Extemporaneous speaking once stating, "The truth which is not eloquently communicated only adds to the desiccated domain of human ignorance. Only through articulate leadership can the truth become vivid and meaningful." Graduating in 1966, Joe was a recipient of a New York State Regents Scholarship and attended Columbia University in NY, NY. While at Columbia, he joined a fraternity and remained lifelong friends with many of his fraternity brothers. He graduated Columbia in 1970 then traveled out West eventually landing in Arizona and taking a teaching position at a Bureau of Indian Affairs boarding school on the Navajo Nation. He took classes in Navajo language immersion at a local college as well as a very brief attempt at a career in bull riding. Joe attended law school at The University of Denver Sturm College of Law and served on the Law Review. Upon graduating in 1976, his first position was a Legal Aid lawyer at South Dakota Indian Legal Services for the Rosebud, Pine Ridge, and Cheyenne River Reservations. He then became a Tribal Lawyer for Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe concentrating on natural resource management by helping tribes utilize water rights pursuant to treaties and Supreme Court decisions by which tribes were found to have reserved use of water for development. With similar interests in tribal natural resources, Joe met Thomasine Hill in Tucson, AZ and married in 1979 in Crow Agency, MT. Joe moved his family to WV, where he had spent many summers while growing up on the Lambert family farm in Ellenboro, WV- his mother’s birth home. He began a family Oil and Gas venture eventually leading to private practice and settling in St. Marys, WV. In total Joe spent almost 50 years in law from legal aid, tribal attorney, private practice, public defender, assistant prosecuting attorney (Pleasants and Wood counties WV), Circuit Court Judge, and law clerk before retiring. In his most recent years, he and Thomasine enjoyed several recent trips out West and also moved to Lexington, KY then Barboursville, WV to be close to family. Joe followed his 3 grandsons’ football careers very closely and rarely missed games. Joe was an avid reader and eloquent writer who authored a number of poems and short stories he shared with close friends and family

Joe was preceded in death by his son, Dustin Joseph Troisi. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Thomasine (Hill) Troisi of Barboursville, WV, one child, Rebecca Troisi (Jermaine Keyes) of Ashland, KY, four siblings Gerardina Torres (George) of Vienna, WV, Ralph Troisi (Patricia) of Waverly, West Virginia, Gloria Larkin (Tim) of Bridgeport, CT, and Mary Troisi of Boston, MA, as well as 3 grandchildren who brought him tremendous joy and pride, Angelo Washington, Jaquez Keyes and Jermaine Keyes, Jr. At his request there will be no formal funeral but family with have a graveside service and celebration of life that will be conducted at a later date for the convenience of family. He will be laid to rest at the Ellenboro Cemetery (also known as Lambert Cemetery) in Ellenboro, West Virginia. With great love and gratitude, we will forever remember you, Dad.

Judy Marlene Chapman

Judy Marlene (Jones) Chapman

Judy Chapman, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother met her loved ones in Heaven on March 14, 2026, surrounded by her earthly family. Her family meant the world to her and she spent her 80 years dedicated to them.

She was born on August 22, 1945, in Huntington, WV to the late Garnie E. Jones and Nannie A. (Carey) Jones, being their fourth daughter. Her three older sisters, Alice Jones Thomas, Dorothy Lee Jones Magee, and Naomi Jones Morris predeceased her. She was privileged to know her grandfather, John H. Carey, who was born in 1873 (during Reconstruction) and lived to be 98!

She attended Harveytown Elementary School, West Junior High School, Huntington High School (Class of ’63), and Huntington Junior Business College. She made many friends along the way and continued to enjoy their friendship throughout her life.

As a young child and youth, she attended Southside E.U.B. Church in Harveytown, attending Sunday School and Youth Group every week. Judy was baptized when she was a teenager on a freezing January Sunday in Twelve Pole Creek in Spring Valley, Wayne County. The preacher used a large branch to break the ice; she said she never felt the cold!

In 1964 she married the late Gene E. Chapman from Ashland, KY, and they became the proud parents of three sons: Garnie Edwin, Carry Todd, and Shawn Tate. She loved being the grandmother of seven grandchildren: Marlene, Crystal, Alex, Zac, Sarah, Gale, and Andrew. The family continued to grow with her nine great-grandchildren: Jayden, Kansas, Jakob, Billy (passed), C**t, Lilly, Damian, Orian, and Willow. Only three months ago, Zaharia Patience made her a GREAT-GREAT-grandmother. “Mama” enjoyed spending time with and caring for her family members. She also had many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins who played special places in her life. When Judy was around, a good time was had by all!

In addition to being a homemaker, she helped at her children’s school with holiday parties and the PTA. During her life, she worked outside the home in other positions. She cared for the elderly, managed the Downtown Movie Theaters for many years, served as secretary/treasurer of the IATSE Union, and retired from St. Mary’s Medical Center Food Service Department.

Birds, especially hummingbirds, were special to her, and she could watch them for hours at a time. She liked most animals, both live and stuffed, with elephants and roosters at the top of the list. “Cheech,” her doggie, will miss her very much.

She had a love for traveling and was always ready for the next adventure. She liked to cook, fish, and camp. She had a passion for all things “Elvis” and savored her visit to Graceland.

Judy showed a joyous spirit and always carried a smile on her face. She tried to find the humor in everything—even the most difficult situations. She had a “heart of gold” and compassion for everyone she met.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 20 at 1:00 P.M. at the Reger Funeral Home Chapel, with public visitation beginning at noon. In lieu of flowers, consider donating in Judy’s memory to Hospice of Huntington, PO Box 464, Huntington, WV 25709.
