Pain in your feet, knees, hips, or lower back may all be more connected than you think. The body works as a kinetic chain, which means when one area is off, it can affect everything above it. A poor foundation at the feet can contribute to knee pain, hip pain, and even lower back discomfort.

That’s why evaluating foot function is about more than just the foot itself. In some cases, the problem may actually be coming from a pinched nerve, a slipped disc, or another issue higher up the chain. A podiatrist can help identify the source and guide you to the right specialist when needed.

If you’ve been dealing with pain and are not sure where it’s really coming from, it may be time to get it checked out.

Foot surgery starts long before the day of the procedure. At our practice, we make sure patients feel informed, prepared, and confident every step of the way. From bunions and hammertoes to neuromas and tailor’s bunions, we walk through the anatomy, the procedure, anesthesia options, recovery expectations, and everything patients need to do before surgery. Most of our surgeries are outpatient, and most patients have local anesthesia with light sedation for a quicker recovery experience.

Patient education matters because when you know what to expect, the whole process feels less stressful and a lot more manageable.

For two years, bunion pain made everyday life uncomfortable. Even wearing normal shoes became impossible.

After visiting Advanced Foot Care, this patient had a bunionectomy and hammertoe correction, and within just the first week she was already feeling relief.

Now she’s excited about something most people take for granted…
being able to wear her favorite shoes again without pain.

Stories like this are why we love what we do. Helping patients walk comfortably again can truly change lives.

If bunions or hammertoes are causing you daily pain, there are solutions that can help restore comfort and mobility.

Your bunion isn’t just a bump… it’s a bone alignment problem.

A bunion deformity happens when the first and second metatarsal bones drift apart, creating an angle that pushes the big toe inward. Over time this can cause pain, swelling, and difficulty wearing shoes.

In this case, the patient had a 17° metatarsal angle, when ideally we want it under about 5 to 7 degrees.

To correct it, we performed an Austin bunionectomy, which involves removing the bump, making a precise V-shaped bone cut, shifting the bone back into proper alignment, and securing it with screws.

An additional Akin osteotomy was performed to further straighten the big toe using a small wedge correction and fixation.

The procedure takes 30 to 40 minutes, and most patients:

• Wear a walking boot for about 4 weeks
• Transition to a sneaker around week 4 or 5
• Reach full healing around week 7 to 8

Modern bunion correction techniques allow patients to recover quickly and get back to normal activity sooner.

Donna’s story is one we hear more often than people realize.

After two foot surgeries, she was left feeling limited, frustrated, and unheard. A fusion surgery that reduced her mobility. A bunion surgery that didn’t correct the problem. And no one fully explaining what that would mean for her long-term movement.

Then she found Dr. Pedram Hendizadeh at Advanced Foot Care in Manhasset NY.

Instead of being treated like “just another patient,” she was treated like a whole person. Her previous surgery was corrected. Her mobility was restored. She was properly supported with orthotics. And most importantly — she got her life back.

Now?

She’s walking.
She’s jumping.
She’s back at the gym.

Two working feet. Full confidence. Total gratitude.

If you’ve had foot surgery that didn’t go as planned, or you’re being told fusion is your only option, get a second opinion.

Put the patient first. Always. 👣

Dr. Junaid Akbar, DPM believes the foundation of great podiatric care is simple: treat every patient as a human being first. When you lead with compassion, comfort follows. When patients feel heard and cared for, results improve. And when results improve, families share their experience.

At Advanced Foot Care, it’s not just about procedures. It’s about people.

Because when you do right by the patient, everything else falls into place.

Nail fungus is way more common than people think, and there’s more than one way to treat it.

Topicals can help in some cases, oral medications work better but require blood work, and laser treatment is the most effective option we offer.

The key is choosing the right treatment for the right patient instead of guessing or wasting time.

If you’ve been dealing with fungal nails and want real answers, not quick fixes, this is a conversation worth having.
