✨Y’all the Black Q***r Visionaries Summit took me to church. Figuratively and literally
I haven’t been to church for service in over 7 years.
Like many others I grew up in the church and rejected it real quick once I was an adult 🏃🏾♀️💨
The same people and lessons about faith and forgiveness felt like hatred when I didn’t conform to traditional ideals
Not gonna lie, when I saw the programming involved a Sunday Service, I almost didn’t attend the summit 🫣
What I loved about the Reverends at BQVS was not only did they share that yes, the church hurt them, but that they learned so much from the church as well
They didn’t reject that maybe you don’t believe in a God but maybe you have multiple Gods or none at all and have a Higher Power
I live in a world and allow space for multiple things to be true at once, the church hurt me AND helped me in my early years, I believe in God and many Gods
I have never been in such a welcoming, open, and safe space. Where we laughed, danced, cried, celebrated, and praised together as community
That’s Church. That’s Faith. That’s Community.
Just like with finding a good provider, sometimes you have to kiss some frogs until you find your prince, finding a good church is similar
Idk if I’m ready to visit a church regularly yet but I’m allowing myself to go through this process with an open mind
Would love to hear where you are in your religious journey
