Who are the faceless heroes helping citizens through their crises on the other end of the 9-1-1 call? That would be the Huntsville Fire and Rescue Communications Division. Through tornado season, winter freezes and missed holidays with their families, dispatchers are at their stations, prepared to answer the call for help. β˜ŽοΈπŸš’

β€œThe Communications team is a group of rock stars,” said Fire Communications Manager Eric Jean. β€œWe’re always looking out for each other and checking in on how each person is coping with these difficult situations.” ⭐

Tornadoes can strike with little warning. Take time this week to prepare your home and family:
βœ… Know where to take shelter (lowest level, interior room, no windows)
βœ… Have a weather radio or alert app ready
βœ… Create a communication plan with loved ones
βœ… Keep your emergency kit stocked

⏱️ Seconds matter in an emergency. Make a plan before the storm!
πŸ“ž And remember: Call 911 only for real emergencies.

715am: Here's our thinking on timing of Round 2 storms later today, give or take an hour. Take the time now to prepare your shelter locations, and have more than 1 way to receive warnings when we issue them later today. Stay safe, and we'll all get through this together!

We know storms can be stressful. Pack a safety kit, have a plan, and check on family, friends, and neighbors.

Make sure you have multiple ways to get warnings and a plan for where to go if one is issued. If you can't get somewhere that's 100% safe, like a storm shelter, you can still get yourself to a safer place, like a bathroom or closet in the middle of your home. For manufactured or mobile homes, start thinking of a better shelter plan now. Also, make sure to take your phone 'Do Not Disturb' off.
