The Hairston Clan is one of the largest American families. They held slaves from the 1700’s until after the mid 1800’s. The family fortune was remarkable to say the least. There are several books written about and their times. The best I’ve found is “The Hairston’s : An American Family in Black and White” written by Henry Wiencek.
