Please join us in welcoming Wendy Roberts, Employment Specialist/Job Coach to the Phoenix team!
Wendy officially joined Phoenix on November 24, 2025, and we’re excited to have her on board.
Here’s an introduction in her own words:
“I’m Wendy Roberts, and I have over 30 years of experience supporting individuals with intellectual, physical, and mental health needs through case management, coaching, advocacy, management, and community outreach. I’m certified in Person-Centered Planning, Trauma-Informed Care, Crisis Prevention Institute Training, and ASIST Su***de Prevention Training. I strive to bring a down-to-earth, steady presence to every interaction with both individuals and colleagues. I’m known for building trust quickly, meeting people where they are, creating positive moments, and celebrating strengths.
After spending 25 years in Texas raising my son and daughter and having so many adventures with my grandson, I moved to Alabama last year. This was to be with my true love and start new adventures by blending our families and taking all the necessary steps to secure our plans. I still felt I was missing something, which I finally found—the day I walked into my interview at Phoenix, when it genuinely felt like I was “home.” Now I truly can call Alabama “Sweet Home, Alabama”.
I’m pretty easy to spot: I’m the one with tons of trinkets, anything and everything PURPLE, sunflowers, and Chiefs (reminding me of my home state of Kansas), mystical dragons, and gnomes tucked all around my space. I love nature and taking slow Sunday drives just to admire the scenery. At home, we take care of our chickens and enjoy cooking with the fresh eggs. We just got our first blue egg from our youngest Easter Egger. This coming year, we’re starting the journey of building our home on our land, so our Cane Corso has all the room in the world to explore.
At Phoenix, I’m excited to continue uplifting others, strengthening community connections, and bringing both my experience and my heart to a team that makes a real difference every day.”
Welcome to the Phoenix family, Wendy!

Robert Miller, Jr. is nominated for the Honor Roll for Veterans Award. After serving as a military police officer in the U.S. Army, Miller now applies his military skills as an assistant safety manager for Phoenix in Huntsville, Alabama. Miller works in the Safety & Health Program on the Redstone Arsenal basewide grounds maintenance contract and the FBI grounds maintenance contract. He provides valuable trend analysis, risk identification and mitigation, and best practices for Phoenix's most complex contract, which poses the highest risk to personnel and property. Miller created and implemented a safety record-keeping system to track weekly meetings, ensuring that all required and recommended safety topics are addressed. Miller’s efforts have directly contributed to no lost-time accidents, changes in procedures that create safer operations, reduced costs associated with replacing damaged equipment, and increased operational efficiency. Robert's "mission-first" attitude and attention to detail are a driving force behind Phoenix’s outstanding safety record and reputation on this contract.

Phoenix is a nonprofit with a mission dedicated to assist people, primarily those with disabilities, to improve the quality of their lives. The vision is to support a community free of employment and social barriers for people with disabilities.
Phoenix’s origination dates to the early 1950’s, coinciding with the polio epidemic that struck the United States around that time. In 1953, several groups in Huntsville and Madison County, including the Huntsville Junior League and the Shriners, began providing rehabilitation services to children under the name of Alabama Society of Crippled Children, which later became well-known as the Alabama Easter Seals.
In the early 1970’s, Phoenix Vocational Services was created in order to provide specialized vocational rehabilitation and help adults with disabilities become better prepared for employment opportunities. In order to assist these individuals in work-readiness preparation, Phoenix sought contracts with local businesses to provide real job opportunities for those individuals in a training status.
In the 1980’s two centers operated by the company, Abilities Development Center and the Huntsville Rehabilitation Center, combined to form Phoenix Manufacturing. Then later incorporated vocational services and government services all under one name, Phoenix. The organization also decided during the 1980’s to stop providing medical services to children under the auspices of the Alabama Easter Seals, since those services were then readily available through various other local agencies.
Phoenix has three divisions under the Phoenix brand: Manufacturing, Government Services and Vocational Services, all operating under one legal business entity, Huntsville Rehabilitation Foundation, Inc. Providing services and jobs to people with disabilities in eight counties in Alabama and four states across the country, Phoenix provides services to over 1,200 people annually and employs nearly 700 people with annual wages and benefits totaling over $25 million.
