SportsMED Orthopaedic Surgery & Spine Center is a complete orthopedic practice committed to the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of injuries and diseases of the musculoskeletal system. We have 22 physicians covering ten areas of orthopedic medicine: orthopedics, sports medicine, spine medicine, neurosurgery, joint replacement, arthroscopic surgery, foot & ankle surgery, hand, wrist & elbow surgery, physical medicine & rehabilitation, and podiatry. 👏Congrats to our September Athletes of the month: Kylie Peterson and Issac Whetstone. 📣👏

Kylie Peterson, a senior at Buckhorn High School with a 3.96 GPA, is a distinguished student-athlete and leader. A multi-time state and national cheerleading champion, she excels academically as a National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta member and HOSA State Finalist. Passionate about service and healthcare, Kylie actively leads in student government, community outreach, and school ambassador roles, reflecting her drive, compassion, and commitment to becoming a pediatric emergency medicine physician.

Isaac Whetstone, a standout student-athlete at St. John Paul II Catholic High School, with a 3.8 GPA, has achieved remarkable success both in and out of the pool. A three-time 1A–5A State Diving Champion and AAU National Qualifier, he exemplifies dedication, discipline, and excellence in his sport. Beyond athletics, Isaac is a committed scholar and leader—an active member of the National Honor Society and Rho Kappa, and a participant in Capstone Leadership Camp. With over 100 hours of community and civic involvement.

👏Congrats to our August Scholar Athletes of the Month: Mark Andrzejewski and Katie Lowe 🏈🏀⚾️🤼‍♀️

Mark Andrzejewski is a true leader on and off the field at JPII. With a 4.2 GPA, National Honor Society membership, and standout performance in football, basketball, and baseball, he’s earned MVP honors in both basketball and baseball, plus All-Area and All-Region recognition. A two-year captain, Final Four baseball run contributor, and 2x Student-Athlete of the Week, all while completing 95 service hours.

Katie Lowe is an exceptional student-athlete at JPII with a 4.2 GPA and over 171 hours of community service. A state champion in both pole vault and wrestling, she’s a multi-time state qualifier, team captain, and a member of the 2025 Alabama National Women’s Wrestling Team. Academically, she’s a 2025 AP Scholar and active in multiple honor societies, including NHS, SNHS, Mu Alpha Theta, Rho Kappa, and Spanish Honor Society. Katie leads by example both on and off the field.

Did you know SportsMED has a new physical therapy branch designed specifically for athletes? It’s called Triple Threat Performance—and it combines Sports Physical Therapy by DPTs, Performance Training for individuals & teams, and our signature Return-to-Sport program, all under one roof.

In addition to our original location inside SportsMED, we’ve expanded with a brand-new space inside the Clutch Performance Building conveniently located at 7242 Bailey Cove Rd SE, Huntsville, AL 35802.

This 22,500 sq. ft. indoor sports facility features a large turf field and state-of-the-art equipment—making it the perfect home for helping athletes recover, train, and get back to peak performance.

SportsMED Orthopedic Surgery & Spine Center has been providing North Alabama with orthopedic care for 25 years. Founded 25 years ago as a two-physician practice, it has since grown to become one of the largest, most diverse, and innovative private practices in North Alabama, with four locations in Huntsville, Madison, Athens, and Decatur, Alabama.
