Winter Weather Update -

Be aware of the winter storm that may impact North Alabama in the coming days. Please take a few moments to prepare nowโ€”early planning can make a significant difference if severe weather or power outages occur.

The US National Weather Service Huntsville reports a winter weather system expected to impact northern Alabama and portions of southern middle Tennessee this weekend. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from 6:00 PM Friday through 6:00 PM Sunday. Light rain is expected today through Friday morning, followed by a transition to a wintry mix Friday evening through Sunday night. Snow, sleet, and freezing rain are possible, with cold temperatures allowing impacts to linger into next week.

Forecast impacts may include two to three inches of snow or sleet, or over one quarter inch of ice. Roads may be slick, and power outages are possible. Weather information is provided by the US National Weather Service Huntsville Alabama

Emergency supply planning: https://www.ready.gov/plan

Warming Shelters
Warming centers are available across the Tennessee Valley, including:
Madison, Morgan, Limestone, Jackson, Marshall, and DeKalb Counties.

Prepare for the Worst, Hope for the Best
Before the storm arrives, please consider the following:

*Charge devices: phones, battery packs, flashlights

*Use safe lighting: flashlights (get abundant of batteries to last couple days) and candles

*Stock food and water: at least 2โ€“3 days (include no-cook options)

*Stay warm: hats, gloves, blanketsโ€”homes lose heat quickly

*Fuel vehicles early; gas stations may lose power

*Trim weak branches near your home if time allows

*Seal drafts: use towels at doors, close unused rooms

*Protect pipes: allow faucets to drip, open cabinet doors

*NEVER use grills or generators indoors

Now is the time to prepare for possible winter weather this weekend. Please make sure you have a warm place to stay and enough food and supplies for several days. Be sure to check the weather on TV, do not go out on roads when it's dangerous

โœจSeason's Greetings from the Staff and Students at Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blindโœจ

Since 1858, AIDB has been more than a place of learning; it has been a home where holiday traditions warm our hearts and connect generations. Like a family, we embrace traditions old and new, including a cherished addition: Our First Lady, Debbie Gilliam, selecting a Christmas story and creating a lesson plan for young and old. At the annual Christmas party at the President's Home, students receive their own copy of the bookโ€”precious keepsakes for many. Through music, laughter, and the joy of gathering together, we celebrate traditions that inspire learning and memories that continue to shape our future.
โ€” Happy Holidays from our family to yours, Dennis and Debbie Gilliam, President and First Lady.
