Hospice Family Care

Hospice Family Care Welcome to Hospice Family Care (HFC), Huntsville and Madison County's only not-for-profit hospice. Nobody could have been more patient and caring than you all.

Hospice Family Care offers supportive in-home or inpatient medical, social, and emotional support for those affected by life-threatening illness, grief and loss. HFC provides care and support for terminally-ill patients and their families. Hospice care is not limited to patients with a cancer diagnosis. Our services are available for anyone with a terminal disease. A recent study reports that hospice care may prolong the lives of some terminally-ill patients. Hospice care is based on the belief that comfort and quality-of-life at the end of a terminal illness are of utmost importance. The study suggests that the hospice method of care may be affecting the length of life for some patients. Testimonials/comments from families, patients, residents –

-“Hospice Family Care, What a family you are! To me it takes a special person to do what they do and they are certainly special”

-“Thank you all for educating us, comforting us, and befriending us. Anthony was truly blessed by your program. Our family will forever be grateful for the support”

-“Thank you so much for all the support you have offered to our family during this difficult time. How can we put words on paper to properly express how much we appreciated each and everyone that helped us care for our beloved husband, Dad, and Big Pa. Your hugs and kind words brought us comfort. Our tears were replaced with smiles. You were there for us through every phone call, every visit and offered help to each person that was caring for our loved one. From the bottom of our hearts we appreciate everything you did to lessen the pain of our loss. You will be forever remembered in our hearts.”

Understanding the difference can help families make informed choices about care and support. 💜

Talking about end-of-life wishes can feel overwhelming, but it's one of the greatest gifts you can give your loved ones. These aren't one-time, sit-down formal discussions; they are ongoing, loving conversations.

Start a conversation by:
💜 Using a news story or recent event
💜 Talking about your own wishes
💜 Focusing on quality of life

These conversations are essential for ensuring comfort and dignity later.

✨ Myth: Choosing hospice means giving up hope.

💙 Fact: Hospice isn’t about giving up. It’s about finding comfort, dignity, and quality of life. Many families discover a new kind of hope through meaningful moments and compassionate care.

Don't let this myth prevent a loved one from accessing the support they need.

November is recognized as National Hospice and Palliative Care Month.

It’s a time to honor the teams who bring comfort, dignity, and compassion to patients and families facing serious illness. It also serves as a great reminder to have those important conversations, so you and your loved ones are prepared.

Palliative and hospice care aren’t about giving up. They’re about focusing on quality of life, managing symptoms, and helping patients live each day to the fullest. 💜

On Sunday, November 2, 2025, we hosted our Annual Celebration of Life Ceremony honoring the patients we served over the last year. We had several family members attend and reflect on the loss of their loved ones. We honored and remembered them by celebrating their lives with prayer, dance, music, words of reflection, and a candle lighting service. It truly is an honor to walk this journey with you. Thank you for trusting us with their care.

Our Story

As Madison County’s oldest and only not-for-profit hospice, we have been caring for the life of our community since 1979 by providing hospice and bereavement care to terminally ill patients – and their families. Until recently, our services were primarily focused on outpatient, home hospice care as well as bereavement care through The Caring House. We began a new chapter in 2017 with the opening of our inpatient hospice facility on the campus of the Redstone Village senior living community. This beautiful building offers general inpatient hospice care as well as respite care to patients who meet those criteria.

It’s a privilege to care for our patients and their loved ones during this time in their lives. Thank you for your continued support in caring for hospice patients.

Hospice Family Care and The Caring House are programs of Caring for Life.
