Remember to Spring Forward Tonight ⏰

Daylight Saving Time begins tonight, and that hour shift can affect both residents and staff. In healthcare settings, timing is everything!

Be sure to:
✔ Update medication administration schedules
✔ Confirm staffing and shift change times
✔ Check electronic charting systems
✔ Prepare teams for possible sleep-related fatigue

A proactive reminder helps prevent documentation errors and protects patient care continuity.

Thank you to the healthcare professionals across South Dakota who show up ready, even when the clock changes. 🌷

Women are the backbone of healthcare staffing, making up the majority of nurses, LPNs, CNAs, and allied health professionals who keep patient care running smoothly across our communities. 💛💙

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate all women, but especially the women who bring expertise, compassion, and reliability to every shift. Whether supporting long-term care facilities or stepping into high-demand roles, their work ensures patients are cared for and healthcare teams are supported.

ACT NOW! DEADLINE TONIGHT
SUPPORT NURSES AND PATIENT SAFETY

💛💙 Nurses are essential to keeping healthcare running smoothly, ensuring patients receive safe, high-quality care every day.

A proposed Department of Education rule could exclude post-baccalaureate nursing degrees from being considered professional, limiting student loan support for advanced nurses and nurse practitioners.

This directly affects healthcare staffing and patient safety. South Dakota relies on skilled, educated nurses—especially in long-term care and critical services—to care for your loved ones. Restricting access to education could reduce qualified providers, increase stress on current staff, and impact the quality of care patients receive.

You can make a difference. Submit a comment today to urge the Department of Education to recognize nursing as a professional degree and provide full access to education support.

💻 Submit your comment here: https://ana.quorum.us/campaign/EDcomment/

Also, consider signing the Nursing Community Coalition Friends of Nursing letter:https://www.aacnnursing.org/Portals/0/PDFs/Policy/Letters/2026/Nursing-and-Friends-Letter-Sign-On.pdf

These comment letters must be submitted as PDFs here: https://www.regulations.gov/commenton/ED-2025-OPE-0944-0001

⏰ Time is critical! Comments are due tonight before midnight. Stand with nurses and the patients and families they care for!

Tell the Department of Education nursing IS a professional degree!

Women’s History Month invites us to pause and reflect on the women who have transformed healthcare; not just in history books, but in hospitals, clinics, and care facilities every single day.

Women have redefined what leadership looks like in nursing. They advocate for patients, mentor new clinicians, stabilize teams during staffing shortages, and continue raising the standard of care across the profession. Their influence extends far beyond a single shift.

In nursing and healthcare staffing, women have long been the backbone of patient care. From bedside clinicians to healthcare leaders, their expertise, resilience, and advocacy continue to move the profession forward.

At PRN Professionals, we see firsthand how women strengthen the healthcare workforce. Whether stepping into new facilities, guiding teams through demanding seasons, or bringing steady clinical expertise where it’s needed most, their presence makes a measurable difference in both patient outcomes and team morale.

This Women’s History Month, we recognize the past, celebrate the present, and look ahead to a future shaped by strong, skilled, compassionate women in healthcare.

Did you know that most caregivers forget to drink water? Dehydration can lead to fatigue, dizziness, and added strain on the heart, especially during busy healthcare shifts when drinking water gets pushed to the bottom of the list.

💛💙 American Heart Month is a great reminder that even small habits can have a big impact on heart health.

Simple ways staff can support their heart health at work:

💧 Keep a water bottle nearby and take small sips throughout the shift
⏰ Pair hydration with routine tasks or breaks as a reminder
🥗 Eat water rich foods like fruits and vegetables when possible
🧂 Be mindful of excess caffeine, which can contribute to dehydration

Facilities can help by creating a culture where short hydration breaks are encouraged, not skipped.

PRN Professionals supports healthcare facilities with reliable staffing solutions, helping teams maintain safe coverage so caregivers can take the quick breaks they need to stay healthy and focused.

Healthy caregivers mean safer care for everyone. 💛💙

💛💙 As Random Acts of Kindness Week comes to a close, remember that one meaningful way to make a difference is by welcoming a new hire, temporary staff, or traveling nurse.

Take a moment to answer their questions, help them get oriented to the facility, or simply offer a friendly introduction.

These thoughtful gestures help staff feel supported, reduce stress and confusion, and accelerate confidence and performance.

When colleagues look out for one another, teamwork strengthens, patient care improves, and staff turnover decreases. Kindness in onboarding can ripple through every shift. 💛💙

💛💙 During Random Acts of Kindness Week, one of the simplest ways to make a difference is by brightening a colleague’s shift. A small gesture like offering a snack, bringing a cup of coffee, or simply sharing a smile can instantly lift morale.

For healthcare staff working long, demanding shifts, these moments of thoughtfulness reduce stress, improve teamwork, and remind everyone they are seen and appreciated.

When morale rises, patient care benefits too. Happier staff provide more compassionate care. 💛💙

💛💙 Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day, a perfect opportunity to show care in ways that matter most in healthcare. Small, thoughtful acts make a big difference for staff and patients alike.

Ideas to offer kindness today:

💼 Thank a coworker for their dedication
📝 Leave an encouraging note in a break room or staff lounge
☕ Share a coffee or healthy snack with a teammate
📣 Publicly recognize someone who went above and beyond
🤝 Offer to cover a break or shift if possible, or support someone handling a challenging task

Every act strengthens relationships, reduces stress, and creates a more positive, patient-focused environment. A little thoughtfulness today can ripple through every shift. 💛💙

🖤 Black History Month Spotlight: Mary Eliza Mahoney 💛💙

Did you know Mary Eliza Mahoney was the first African American woman in the United States to complete a professional nursing training program and earn her nursing license in 1879?

Despite the racial barriers of her time, she became a pioneer in nursing and advocated for equality and opportunity in healthcare.

Mahoney not only raised the professional standards of nursing through her work, she also co‑founded the National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses (NACGN) in 1908, helping expand opportunities for Black nurses and promoting inclusion within the profession.

At PRN, we honor Mary Eliza Mahoney’s legacy because her courage, advocacy, and leadership helped create more inclusive pathways for nurses; pathways that continue to shape the healthcare workforce today. 💛💙

Her life reminds us that advancing the nursing profession and supporting every caregiver — regardless of background — strengthens patient care, healthcare teams, and our communities.

Your perspective can help protect the future of patient care. 🩺

PRN Professionals is encouraging healthcare staff and leaders to submit a public comment today. You can find a sample message and important background information here ➡️ bit.ly/4rtXbaz

Every comment must be reviewed once the public comment period closes. Speaking up helps the Department of Education understand how these decisions could impact nursing education, the healthcare workforce, and staffing levels that facilities and patients depend on every day.

The Tri-Council for Nursing calls on all nurses to submit public comments requesting the inclusion of post-baccalaureate nursing degrees (MSN, DNP, Ph.D.) explicitly in the list of professional degrees before the March 2 deadline.
