Can’t make it in? Just give us a call at 419-433-5231 — we’ll put on our snow boots, place your wreath, tidy up the marker, and send you photos when it’s done. Stay warm out there!

A look into our evening on Tuesday honoring Veteran’s Day and the 10th anniversary of Preston Sharp’s Flags and Flowers Program.

The Groff Family Services Team was joined by area Veterans, Huron High School’s NHS, the American Legion Post 83, and community members to place nearly 3,000 flags and red carnations.

It was a truly beautiful evening last night honoring the Veterans laid to rest at Meadow Green Memorial Park & Cemetery as part of the 10th anniversary of Preston Sharp’s Flags & Flowers Program. 🇺🇸

Our community came together to place nearly 3,000 flags and flowers as the sun set across the field. A huge thank you to our local speakers for their service and for sharing their experience, knowledge, and evening with us:

• David White, of Huron, shared moving remarks on veterans transitioning back to civilian life and the importance of creating fellowship within your neighborhood and community. David served for 18 years in the 75th Ranger Regiment of the Army Special Operations with 14 deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He’s been awarded two Bronze stars for valor, 3 Bronze stars for service, the Purple Heart, and numerous other awards. David is the author of “Veteran Career Journey” and a PhD student at Case Western University studying veteran transition.

• Ron Kearney, of Norwalk, shared with the participants the meaning behind the 13 folds of the American flag. Ron served in the United States Marine Corps from 1969 to 1973 after being honorably discharged. Ron recently moved back home to Norwalk from Arizona in 2015 and joined the Marine Corps League where he served as the Highest-Ranking Officer Commandant from 2019 - 2021. He is also in charge of their scholarship program for Huron County and Milan and serves as Sergeant at Arms for the American Legion Post 41.

We were additionally joined by a host of other local veterans, community members, Huron High School’s (Huron City Schools) National Honor Society, and the American Legion Post 83 Color Guard with the performance of Taps and Steve Kohler with the performance of the Star-Spangled Banner. Plus delicious cookies donated by Kingston of Vermilion. Thank you to all!

Happy Veteran’s Day to all those who served our country 🇺🇸 We’re looking forward to honoring the nearly 3,000 Veterans laid to rest at Meadow Green this afternoon.

For those joining us — the opening ceremony has been moved inside to the Mausoleum Chapel of Remembrance for warmth. We’ll start the event there and then move outside for placement of flags and flowers.

Please park in the main parking lot on the east side of the cemetery. And dress warm!!! ❄️
