It's Throwback Thursday!!!

Did you know...?

Fluoride's dental benefits were discovered in the early 1900s by Dr. Frederick McKay in Colorado Springs, who investigated "Colorado Brown Stain". He and Dr. G.V. Black found that while high natural fluoride levels in water caused mottled enamel (fluorosis), these teeth were paradoxically highly resistant to decay.
By the late 1930s, researchers determined that lower levels of fluoride could protect against decay without causing significant staining.

It's Healthy Mouth Monday!!!

Plain, unsweetened yogurt is excellent for teeth because it is high in calcium and protein, which strengthen enamel. The probiotics (good bacteria) in yogurt combat cavity-causing bacteria, while its low acidity helps maintain a balanced pH in the mouth. Greek yogurt is particularly beneficial due to its higher protein content.

What's your favorite yogurt? Let us know in the comments! 😋

It's Dentistry 101 Wednesday!!!

🦷 What Is a Post and Core After a Root Canal?

After a root canal, a tooth can become weakened because the infected pulp has been removed. If a large portion of the tooth is missing or damaged, your dentist may recommend a post and core to help restore strength and function.

🔹 What is a post?
A post is a small, medical-grade pin placed into the root canal of the tooth. It provides internal support, especially when there isn’t enough natural tooth structure left to hold a restoration.

🔹 What is a core?
The core is a build-up material placed around the post. It rebuilds the tooth’s shape so a crown can be securely placed on top.

🔹 Why is a post and core needed?
✔ Adds stability to a weakened tooth
✔ Helps support a dental crown
✔ Reduces the risk of fracture
✔ Restores proper chewing function

It's Throwback Thursday!!!

Dentures date back to the 7th century BC, with the earliest known examples created by the Etruscan civilization in Italy, who used gold bands to bind human or animal teeth together. The first full set of dentures was carved from wood in 16th-century Japan. Early, often crude, dentures were fashioned from ivory, bone, and teeth from deceased soldiers.

It's Healthy Mouth Monday!

💧 Why Drinking Water Is One of the Best Things You Can Do for Your Smile 🦷

Water does more than keep you hydrated—it plays a big role in your oral health too!

✨ Here’s how water helps your teeth and gums:
• Rinses away food particles and bacteria
• Reduces dry mouth (which lowers cavity risk)
• Helps neutralize acids that cause tooth decay
• Strengthens enamel when it contains fluoride
• Supports healthy gums and fresher breath

Unlike sugary drinks or acidic beverages, water protects your teeth every time you sip—no brushing required 😉

So next time you’re thirsty, grab water and give your smile some love. Your teeth will thank you!
