Here’s a little secret…
No therapist is going to be a good fit for everyone. It doesn’t mean anyone did anything wrong; it just means that you need or want something different. (And that’s okay!)
Aside from our areas of specialization, we’re humans with unique personalities and quirks. Just like everyone has preferences for what they look for in a friend, everyone has preferences for what they look for in a therapist.
So how will you know when it IS a good fit? Here are some examples:
💡You feel connected with them, like you’re in it together
💡Even when the work of therapy is difficult and painful, you feel safe talking to them
💡You feel heard and understood, like they just *get it*
💡If they “miss the mark,” you feel like you’re able to let them know
💡You feel like you have a say in the process and that your goals for therapy matter
💡You might even look forward to your therapy sessions! ☺️
What are some other ways that you know your therapist is a good fit?
