Hi! It’s been a minute since I’ve introduced myself!

I’m Cortney Mikesell, and I have a passion for life. I want to live life to its fullest!! And I’ve learned that taking care of my body is the biggest thing in helping me to do that!

And not in a restrictive “I can only eat Whole Foods and exercise constantly” way but a “I want to enjoy yummy foods while also giving my body the nutrients it needs and exercise to be happy” kind of way.

Taking care of myself- mentally and physically- is important to me and so that’s why I became a coach. I want to help others take care of their selves in a way that is compassionate and helps them to live a happy and full life!

Do you get burned out easily? I used to.

And I still do get burned out occasionally but it happens less and less as I implement BALANCE.

I try to balance everything I do in my life. For example, in the area of exercising, I create balance by changing up my workouts and what I do for exercise.

Yoga some days, running some days, lifting weights other days etc.

Do what feels good for your body that day. Be willing to take rest days to recover and rejuvenate. Some days exercising just won’t happen and that ok. Your body won’t suffer from missing days of exercise here and there.

Remember that it isn’t all or nothing. It’s what your body wants to give and it’s going to be different on different days. The resting and relaxing is a huge part of creating the balance in all areas of your life.

Creating balance in all the areas of your life will help you avoid burnout in the future!! And always remember that change takes time.

I have slowly been figuring out what my values are and what boundaries I need to set because of them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sometimes those boundaries are with myself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am a pretty chill person and don’t usually have strong opinions on a lot of things. That’s not a bad thing. But it has led me to be a passive person.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A boundary I have set with myself is that I need to speak up for myself if there is something I want. I have to ask for help if I want it instead of being passive and not asking but then feeling resentful towards that person that didn’t help me even though they didn’t know I wanted help.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s a lot of learning and growing and making mistakes and slowly getting better, but I can tell you that it is worth it! It is worth it to put in the work!

Take what you need and pass it on: positive affirmations for bad body image days
-My body allows me to give and receive love
-My body is working hard to keep me alive and healthy
-I am more than what my body looks like
-I choose to be kind to my body today
-I can choose to be at peace with how my body looks
-How my body looks doesn’t define who I am

Now believe what you tell yourself and go out and have a day. It doesn’t have to be any kind of day in particular but hopefully it’s a day that you are kind to yourself and your body.

In a creative rut? You need rest!

Have you ever been working on a project or assignment etc and you just felt stuck and had no clue where to go? Ya know like sitting and staring at the computer screen with a blank stare? Yeah me too and ya know what ALWAYS HELPED? Taking a break aka resting.

What that rest looks like is up to you. It could be a snack break or going on a short (or long) walk outside, or even putting the project aside for the day or weeks or months.

Sometimes we have to take breaks from things until we are ready to come back to them and that’s ok and even probably good.

Sometimes I take a week or two off from lifting weights, or projects I’m working on etc. And it gives me renewed energy when I start up again.

Resting, in many different forms, can help you become creative and energized again!!

Step by step plan for what to do when your fear of failure overwhelms you:

At some point or another probably everyone feels like a failure. Maybe about a specific thing or else in general about life.

Getting those feelings is normal and valid but we definitely don’t want to stay there and dwell on those feelings or else we’ll get stuck and it will be hard to move forward.

So, when those hard feelings of failure come, what do you do??

First, acknowledge those feelings and fears. Validate them. “I’m feeling like I’m failing. These are hard feelings but it’s ok that I’m feeling them and they are valid.”

Second, work through why you are feeling this way. Ask yourself “what is bringing these feelings up? What is it that I’m feeling inadequate in?” It may be helpful to even write down a list!

And lastly, change your thought patters. Maybe something on your list was “I am failing as a mom”. Write down all the reason you are NOT failing as a mom. All the reasons you are good at being a mom. Then believe those good things about yourself.

This takes a lot of work and practice and sometimes it’s really hard to believe in yourself. So when it’s hard to believe in yourself, remember that Cortney Mikesell believes in you!!❤️

Is this what your SELF CARE routine is missing? ​​​​​​​​

Most people think of self care as performing tasks to care for ourselves like a bubble bath, dry brushing, getting your nails done, etc. which is partially true…​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
What I really mean is, you have to really relax, you have to let the tension ease out of your body, you have to let all the tasks that are swimming in your mind be done later and you have to stop thinking about them. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
You may not actually be doing yourself any good if you aren't fully relaxing while doing your nails or a face mask.​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Often times feelings of guilt or stress can bubble up and consume our minds during these moments. ​​​​​​​​
So the next time you do self care make sure to really try and relax, and know that you deserve to take care of yourself without feeling guilty or stressed about it. ​​​​​​​​

Try deep breathing for a couple minutes before you do self care, or writing down everything that’s stressing you out so your mind can stop going at 1000 miles per hour. ​​​​​​​​

Here are 3 simple way to get more protein in your diet!

-Have nuts on hand to snack on. Peanuts, cashews, almonds, pistachios etc.

-Add meat to your meals. Having a salad? Add some shredded chicken to it for a bit of added protein. I like to get a rotisserie chicken from Costco and shred it up to use throughout the week.

-Protein powder. But only if it’s in your budget. Protein powder isn’t necessary but it can be very helpful if you struggle to get enough protein in your diet!

It’s important to get enough protein in your diet for multiple reasons but here’s a few: protein helps repair and make new cells, helps regulate your hormones, helps build muscle and other tissues and even helps brain function.

The FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT step in working to create a balanced life is knowing your vision. What are your hopes and dreams for your life? When you think about the perfect life, what is it? That is your vision. How do you want your life to go? To turn out?

Once you know and can see your vision for your life you can move forward intentionally. So take some time this week to journal about your vision. Then you can align that vision with what you do each day to move towards that vision.

This can start to create the balance that you specifically need to reach the goals you have set for yourself. If you want to run a business but also want to live a slower and relaxed life, then you know running your business will be a slow burn and you will always make time in your day to relax.

You’ve then started to create the balance your body needs! As you create the balance you need, you will be more likely to avoid burnout.

Are you CONFIDENT in yourself?​​​​​​​​

If you struggle with confidence, this post is for you.​​​​​​​​

Confidence is connected heavily with your mindset. What do you tell yourself? Do you tell yourself that you are brave? That you are capable? That you can do new and hard things?​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
I think we are all so much more capable than our brains are telling us. We just have to rewrite the story in our brain. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
Start out with journaling about your vision for your life. And dream big. What do you REALLY want? Got it written down? Great! Now you have to start believing that you can live your dream life. How you talk to yourself will be the most important factor in growing your confidence! Talk positively about yourself! You can get there. Start working towards it. Take small steps and go slow if you need to. But please move forward.​​​​​​​​

Here are 3 things you can do to help those who are struggling mentally!​​​​​​​​

1.LISTEN. Struggling mentally can feel really lonely and like no one understands how you feel. Having someone that will listen, and JUST LISTEN, can be really really helpful. ​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
2.Take them on an outing! I can be as small as going on a walk outside with them, or maybe taking them out to lunch. Getting out of the house can be refreshing!​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
3.Do a task for them that they are struggling to do on their own. Could be the dishes or vacuuming or something more specific to someone’s situation. You doing that task will relive some of their stress and may help them be better able to move forward!​​​​​​​​
​​​​​​​​
