Been here more and more lately. It's been so fun to develop this skillset of golf fitness and really help people in new ways. And being able to collaborate with Tyson on a regular basis has created such a nice cohesion between the fitness/rehab and the swing coaching and technical analysis. And we're just getting started πŸ₯‚

☣️ "The dose makes the poison."

➑️ Definitely applies to medicine, but also a great principle I apply in my rehab and exercise.

❌ Too little? No benefit.

❌ Too much? We're constantly trying to put out fires.

βœ… Just right? We get enough stimulus for our muscles and nervous system to make positive changes.

❔Constantly fighting between doing nothing and flaring things up? Send me a DM!

It's been awhile... But we back πŸ€ͺ

πŸ‘‰ One of my favorite strategies for assessing pain is the Test Retest Method.

βœ”οΈ It's so simple, but a really effective way to assess if you're on the right track treating an injury.

πŸ’‘ Test the painful movement... Try a treatment or a two, and then re-test that same painful movement.

πŸ‘ It's not always clean cut like this, and there are certainly other factors that play into how well this works, but it's generally a very good framework to follow.

Need some help with this? Shoot me over a DM!

πŸŽ™οΈ In this JAM PACKED episode full of so many great anecdotes and pieces of advice, I am joined with returning guest Rocky McDowell as we interview Cristina Anderson, a level 4 CrossFit coach who is extremely passionate about creating a welcoming, empathetic environment for everyone, wherever they may be, in their fitness journey. Cristina lives in Massachusetts, but is making a special trip to Idaho Falls next week to help instill those same values here.

πŸ—£οΈ In our discussion, we ask Cristina to share her thoughts on topics such as:

❓ What is your personal mission with CrossFit and the fitness space at large?
❓ What are your own mental and physical health struggles that you dealt with?
❓ What's the big deal with empathy and why do you think it's so foundational to helping people transform their lives?
❓ Do you need to be fit to do CrossFit?
❓ What's the difference between physical appearance vs physical function?
❓ Why is it important to shift your mindset from focusing on what your body LOOKS like vs what your body can DO?
❓ Why CrossFit vs a much cheaper gym membership?

❀️ Empathy is at the heart of Cristina's practice, and if you've ever felt like you're out of place or "not worthy" to be working out in a gym, then you'll absolutely want to take a listen to this.

πŸ‘‰ Also, special announcement:

⚠️ If you have any inkling of making a positive health change and trying CrossFit, wondering what it's all about, if it's for you, and how it can literally change your life, then you're in luck. Rocky and Cristina are teaming up and hosting a FREE workshop for the Idaho Falls community on July 22, 2023. Message me or CrossFit AMROCK for details!

πŸŽ™οΈ Join us in this riveting episode as we dive deep into the world of CrossFit with Southeast Idaho's only certified level 3 CrossFit trainer, Rocky McDowell, co-owner and head coach of CrossFit AMROCK. In our engaging conversation, we take a look at CrossFit and its training methodologies, defining fitness, and unraveling why intensity is so important to stimulate growth not only in the gym, but in life as well.

Throughout our discussion, we answer questions like:

❔ What is CrossFit?
❔ How do you define and objectively measure fitness?
❔ What does a CrossFit workout look like?
❔ Do you need to be in shape to start CrossFit?
❔ Is CrossFit dangerous?

Throughout the episode, Rocky breaks all of this down, discussing CrossFit methodology, the importance of community, and how CrossFit is adaptable to different abilities and can be scaled to meet individuals where they're at on their fitness journey.

$3X Therapy??🀭

πŸŽ™οΈ In this episode, we have a fun conversation, continuing in the mental health realm, but in a little bit different niche. I get the joy of speaking with Susannah Pipkin of

πŸ‘‰οΈ Susannah is a LCSW and also a PhD candidate who has a primary interest in s*x therapy and how it can strengthen and foster better relationships.

We talk about:
βœ… What is s*x therapy and what are some common misconceptions about it?
βœ… What kind of people or couples benefit from s*x therapy?
βœ… Strategies for connection and why you might want to see a counselor, even if things are "okay."

Listen in to our talk and check out the episode notes to get a bunch of resources that Susannah recommends!😁

⚠️ Has someone ever told you this about your squats?

I promise you aren't going to shoot your kneecap across the room if your knees come forward 🐻

In fact, I hope they do come forward. Because it's really hard to hit full depth if you don't let them do that πŸ™ƒ

Would you make someone with 10/10 back pain deadlift? πŸ€”

Maybe you should 😎

Very cool study showing not only can you get people out of pain, but you can get them so strong and not worried about their backs anymore.

What do you think? πŸ‘»

⚠️ Pinching pain in the front of your hips when you squat? πŸ€•

πŸ‘‰οΈ This is one of the strategies I like to use to help address that!

1️⃣ First we just looked at her squat form and made a little modification with her hip and knee position.

2️⃣ Then we added in a banded mobilization DURING the squat to help her hips move even smoother.

πŸ’‘ We also used some dry needling and other mobilization strategies beforehand to help calm things down initially.

After all that? Able to squat VERY comfortably almost painfree! πŸ‘Š

Know anyone that also has this problem? Share this with them!😁

08/16/2022

πŸŽ™οΈ In this episode, I cover what dry needling is, what some of the theories are behind how it works, and how I use it in my practice today!

βœ… There are lots of cool applications apart from just pain relief, including athletic recovery, pre-athletic performance, and improving mobility! πŸ‘Šβ

Interested in trying it out? Shoot me a message! πŸ˜„β

Does it seem like a weird idea to see your physical therapist on a regular basis? πŸ€”

Here are 3 reasons why I think it's actually a good idea! πŸ’‘
