Researchers at UCLA have discovered that Manuka honey can dramatically reduce the growth of breast cancer cells, offering a potential natural and less toxic treatment. In lab studies, Manuka honey inhibited breast cancer cell growth by 84% without harming healthy cells or causing major side effects.
The study tested both estrogen receptor (ER)-positive and triple-negative breast cancer cells. Manuka honey was especially effective on ER-positive cells and enhanced the effects of tamoxifen, a common anti-estrogen therapy. It works by reducing estrogen levels, lowering estrogen receptors in tumors, and triggering cancer cell d*ath.
In mice with ER-positive tumors, honey treatment significantly slowed tumor growth, suggesting it could become a supplement or alternative therapy that’s more targeted and gentler than conventional chemotherapy.
