CID Weekly Legislative Updates
Starting on Friday, January 23, 2026
12:30 - 1:30 PM MST
This weekly Zoom meeting is a space for people with disabilities, family members, and caregivers who
receive Medicaid-funded services to learn about what is happening at the Idaho Legislature, and how it may impact disability and Medicaid services.
We are proud to announce that we have received the Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid, which is the highest level of recognition offered by the nonprofit information service.
Candid's Seals of Transparency highlight an organizations commitment to openness, accountability and integrity. By sharing information about our programs, leadership, financials and impact metrics, DWI demonstrates our dedication to building trust with the community, funders and partners.
For more than 50 years, DWI has been committed to fulfilling our mission-to assist individuals who have a disability or who are disadvantaged to reach their highest level of independence-which continues to propel our efforts to expand new opportunities, strengthen our programs and create meaningful impact for the individuals and the families that we serve.
We are grateful to all of our staff, our business partners and every DWI Champion whose support makes achievements such as this possible.
The House Health and Welfare committee will hear a budget review from Representative Josh Tanner, Co-Chair of the Joint Finance and Appropriation Committee Tuesday, January 20th at 9:00 a.m. There is a Zoom link below the date of the meeting for those who'd like to watch it.

Please SUBSCRIBE to the following site as it can be a great resource for the current legislative session and current issues and concerns regarding Medicaid in Idaho.
Today Resource is:
A Caregiver’s Guide to Who’s Who at the Idaho Legislature with important guide to what legislators are serving on committees that are directly related to Medicaid issues.
Why Committees Matter
Most of the work that affects caregivers and our disabled loved ones doesn’t happen on the House or Senate floor. It happens in committees.
Here are the two that matter most for families like ours:
Joint Finance - Appropriations Committee (JFAC)
******JFAC is the committee that controls the state budget.
Health & Welfare Committees (House and Senate)
These committees handle legislation related to:
******Medicaid and Medicaid expansion
******Home- and community-based services (HCBS)
******Programs like PCS and LRI PCS
They are often the first stop for bills that affect disabled Idahoans and their families. What happens here determines whether proposals move forward, stall, or change significantly.
Both chambers have Health & Welfare committees.
Bills usually start in one chamber, then move to the other. You don’t need to master the civic process, just know that both sides matter, and committee members are often where thoughtful outreach makes the biggest difference.
When You Reach Out
A few reminders we always want to share:
***Personal messages matter more than mass emails.
***You don’t need policy language — your lived experience is enough.
***Short, calm, respectful outreach goes further than long explanations.
***Our focus is on access to care, safety, stability, and improved outcomes for our loved ones, not finances or politics.

The IF Client Association rang in 2026 a little early today, but had a fun time, nonetheless. While many took a swing at the Timeclock Pinata, it took our Skills Trainer Lexi to finally crack it open. Afterwards. dancing and a sparkling juice toast was shared by all. We hope that everyone has a Healthy and Happy New Year!
