Walking doesn’t just happen — it grows. 🌱 Before those first independent steps, kids build a whole foundation of skills that support walking success:

Core & leg strength first — strong muscles support upright movement.
Balance & weight shifting — learning to move weight from foot to foot.
Pulling up & cruising — building coordination and safe stepping.
Confidence through practice — wobbly steps are part of the process.

Walking success can look different for every child, and our PTs are here if you or your child need support.

A little mess can lead to a lot of learning!💗 Sometimes it looks like pink, sparkly cloud dough and messy hands.

Sensory play like this supports hand strength, coordination, and regulation, all while kids think they’re just having fun. That’s our favorite kind of learning. Simple. Engaging. Skill-building.✨

Save this for an easy Valentine’s activity.💕

Remember: Milestones aren’t met in a day, and every child’s path looks a little different.

Big skills—like walking—are built from many smaller steps over weeks and months. Every roll, sit, crawl, and stand matters, even when progress feels slow.

If you think your child could use extra support building strength, balance, or confidence, our PTs are here to help!

Fine motor skills are so important for everyday tasks like writing, cutting, and dressing.

Try a few of these simple activities to turn playtime into skill-building:

1. Play-Dough: Roll, pinch, squeeze, and pull play-dough to strengthen little hand muscles needed for writing, cutting, and buttoning.

2. Sticker Peel & Place: Peeling stickers works finger strength and control—placing them targets precision and hand-eye coordination.

3. Tweezer Treasure Hunt: Use tweezers or tongs to pick up small items (pom-poms, beads, cereal). This builds grasp strength and coordination.

4. Bead Stringing: Threading beads, pasta, or buttons improves bilateral coordination and finger control.

5. Clothespin Squeeze: Clip clothespins onto a box, plate, or string to strengthen the fingers used for pencil grip.

6. Paper Tearing & Crumpling: Tear paper into strips or crumple it into balls—great for hand strength and coordination (and super easy!).

If you have questions about your child’s fine motor skills, we’re here to help!
