Enea Family Funeral Home

Enea Family Funeral Home The Enea, Ciaccia, Applegate and Day Funeral Directors have been serving the families of the Mohawk In August of 1969, Harry J. Enea, Jr.

began his career in funeral service assisting Edward Holleran in the operation of Holleran Funeral Service in Herkimer. In January of 1972, he obtained his NYS Funeral Director's license, and also formed the Enea Monument Company. In the early 1980's, he purchased the Herkimer location subsequently adding his name. Harry has ambitiously dedicated himself to the families of the Mohawk Valley and the surrounding areas, and is proud to say his son is equally dedicated and is continuing the tradition. In 1975 Harry began helping Thomas Konchar in running Konchar Funeral Home in Little Falls, eventually buying this firm, which is now the Enea Family Funeral Home. Subsequently, the Shepardson Funeral Home firm merged their business with the Enea Family, forming the Konchar-Enea and Shepardson Funeral Home. In 1992 a fellow colleague, Robert Woody who ran the Smith - Woody Funeral Home in St. Johnsville, NY, put his trust in our firm to carry on his name and provide the utmost service to his community. We were honored, and took this opportunity and were anxious to now serve the families of Montgomery County. The name was eventually changed to Enea Family Funeral Home and Kevin Enea is the Funeral Director in charge. Throughout the years Harry's son Kevin decided to join his father in giving the families of Montgomery and Herkimer Counties the attention and professionalism they deserved. He went on and obtained his Funeral Director's license in 1995. He joined the family business and brought forth many new ideas and concepts to the ever-changing funeral industry. Kevin, along with Harry's nephew, Jason Cacciatore, are now in charge of the Enea Memorial operation, which encompasses D.H. Burdick Monument Company in Clinton, NY and DeRegis Monuments of Syracuse, NY which were both acquired by the Enea family. He is also very active in the community and the operation of Enea Family Funeral Homes. Throughout the years our firm was approached by many funeral conglomerates throughout the country looking to acquire our business but we decided to stay family owned and operated. With that in mind, and with the addition of Harry's son, Kevin, and encouragement from many families in the Ilion and Frankfort area, we opened our newest funeral facility, the Enea Family Funeral Home, between Frankfort and Ilion, in 1999. The 6500 square foot facility includes a children's play room, ample parking, a monument office, casket and vault display, and two very large and spacious gathering rooms. This facility also houses our administrative offices, and is one of the most welcoming funeral homes in the Mohawk Valley. In July of 2004, the Enea, Applegate, and Day families came together to form a funeral home service that would jointly operate four funeral homes in the valley. The sum of Don Applegate, John Day and the Enea Family staff working together, meant significant opportunities for us to support every family's needs. The Applegate & Day Funeral Home and the Graves-Applegate-Day Funeral Home have became completely independent and family-owned and are no longer affiliated with Stewart Enterprises Inc. Families will now be able to request the funeral director they prefer to arrange and direct their loved one's services. The Applegate Funeral Home was founded in 1919 by Don's grandfather and grandmother, Clayton and Marjorie Applegate. In September of 2016, Marty Ciaccia, a native of Frankfort and long-time licensed funeral director with the Enea firms, officially became a partner in the organization, and the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home was born. Our funeral directors and staff are proud of their commitment to the community they serve, and are dedicated, whole-heartedly, to creating an environment that makes our families feel safe and comfortable. They take pride in being Mohawk Valley residents and are available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. You can learn more about each of our funeral directors in the staff section of our website by clicking our staff bios.

Linda Ilene Kinney

Linda Ilene Kinney, 68, of Ilion, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Wynn Hospital in Utica.

Born on August 31, 1957, in Herkimer, NY, Linda was the daughter of Paul and Ethel (Hanson) Kinney and a 1976 graduate of Ilion High School.

Known for her caring nature, Linda spent many years babysitting, a role she truly loved. She later worked for Herb Philipson’s, provided in-home care for others, and eventually retired from Valley Residential.

Linda had a deep love for the Adirondacks, nature, and being near the water. She was an avid birdwatcher, photographer, and gardener who enjoyed sunrises, sunsets, daily exercise classes, and long walks. Her favorite things to do were to "spend time with my sisters, laughing and remembering our family life from child hood," and spending time with nieces, nephews, and their families. She also took great joy in baking holiday treats for friends and family and enjoying long car rides with the sun shining on us and the music blasting.

Linda was predeceased by her parents and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her loving sisters: Paula Rex, Laura Kinney, Norma Kinney (Judy), Donna Kinney, and Debbie Johnson; and several aunts, and cousins.

Our family wishes to thank the staff on the eighth floor west of Wynn Hospital for the excellent care they provided to Linda.

IN LOVING MEMORY

MOHAWK - Renata Undt, age 47, died on March 31st, 2026, at her home in Mohawk, New York. At her side was her longtime partner, friend and father of her youngest child.

She was born in Oswego, NY on September 30th, 1978, to John A. Rodgers and Kathleen T. Barbasso. Renata was disabled for most of her life due to various debilitating illnesses.

She struggled through life, losing both her parents at a very young age, battling health issues and knowing that her life would be painful as well as shorter than the average individual. However, despite all her trials and tribulations - her determination and strength were such that she always found a way to persevere, to smile, to dance, and to survive.

Renata would say that her biggest accomplishment in life was having her children. She loved butterflies, she loved nature and she loved to cook! From a young age she dreamed of one day going to culinary arts school and becoming and working as a chef.

In recent years, she was able to partially realize that dream, between raising her boys and battling her illnesses, when she earned her associate’s degree in culinary arts in 2022.

She will be remembered by her partner of many years and his family, her aunt, cousins and friends but especially by her children - for her warmth, her strength, and the truly great hugs she gave so freely.

Renata will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Services for Renata will be held on Wednesday April 8th, 2026, calling hours with viewing from 2:00PM until 4:00PM concluding with a funeral prayer service, at The Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home at 4309 Acme Road Ilion, NY 13357.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, and are greatly appreciated, to support funeral expenses and the care of her minor children.

Renata’s obituary may be viewed on the funeral home website at www.eneafamily.com on the Internet.

Robin A. Mangini

IN LOVING MEMORY

CASSVILLE - Robin Anthony Mangini, at the age of 75 years old, passed away peacefully on March 24th, 2026, surrounded by his family and close friends.

Robin was born in Johnson City, New York, on May 15th, 1950, to parents Gwendeline Mary (Brown) Mangini and Anthony Martin Mangini. He resided in Endwell outside of Binghamton, NY, where he attended Maine Endwell High School with his sister. Robin left Endwell after high school and attended SUNY Morrisville for environmental studies beginning in 1968. Two years later, he transferred to Cornell University, where he obtained his Bachelor’s of Science in Natural Resources Conservation.

Robin worked for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as a District Conservationist for the majority of his career. This position led him to live across New York State including Jefferson, Yates, Sullivan, and Oneida counties. Robin was a member of the Oneida County Water Quality Committee and volunteered with the Oneida County Environthon. He met the love of his life, Chrissy Weber, through work and they married in September of 1992. While working, Robin also refereed football. Throughout Central New York, from Pop Warner to varsity, Robin would be running the 120-yard football field with the young athletes. Before retiring, Robin worked for the Natural Resources Conservation Services through the USDA and ended his career in Oneida County. During retirement, he consulted for the Oneida County Soil and Water Conservation District.

From growing beets, picking up injured bees with his bare hands, and feeding the crows, Robin was a lover of nature and deeply believed in the idea that we need to preserve the Earth as much as we can. In his free time, Robin would take care of crops in the family garden found behind the log house he built with his best friend, Fred. Besides gardening, Robin also loved to chop wood, cheer for the Yankees, joke with others with his unique sense of humor, play softball, and support his children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors. He would support his daughter Nicole with her cheerleading events, attend dirt car races with his son Stephen, and seek Atlantic Puffins all over the world with his youngest daughter Danielle.

Robin contributed much to the local community in Central New York. He introduced Little League to the City of Oneida and was the President of Sauquoit Valley Little League while his youngest daughter was playing. Robin loved to donate to local causes, and made sure others would donate to the Stuff the Bus CNY charity in lieu of paying him for his chopped wood. He would also give produce he grew to local charitable organizations.

Robin was and is loved by all. He is survived by his wife Chrissy of Cassville NY, his children Nicole (Wendell) of Chittenango NY, Stephen (Denise) of Blossvale NY, Danielle of Amherst MA, his grandchildren Parker, Preston of Chittenango NY, and sister Vanessa (Gary) of Marcellus NY and many nieces and nephews throughout the country. Robin loved both his immediate and extended family and is forever grateful to have strong English and Italian roots. He has an uncle, Alan (June), and cousins in England whom his family still keeps in touch with. Robin is predeceased by his mother, father, aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Binghamton NY area and England. He is survived by cousins from these areas as well. Robin was also predeceased by his father–in-law Zygmunt Weber, mother-in-law Ida Weber and is survived by his brother in laws Joe and Leon Weber.

For about ten years, Robin was battling Alzheimer’s. His wife Chrissy was his constant support and advocate throughout his journey. He was surrounded by his children, providing love and lifting his spirits. Robin will be deeply missed by all, especially those who were closest and dearest to him.

A celebration of life will take place on July 11th with further details pending. Robin's family made his arrangements with The Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road in Ilion, New York. They would also like to thank the staff at the Seigenthaler Hospice Center, as well as all the family and friends that supported Robin through this difficult and hardship journey.

Todd R. Smithson

IN LOVING MEMORY

ILION - Todd Smithson, 62, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 29th, 2026, at his home in Ilion, New York.

Todd was born in Ilion on June 19th, 1963, the son of Robert and Mary Jane Smithson. A lifelong resident, he graduated from Ilion High School, a proud member of the Class of 1981. Todd began work with the Village’s Power & Light Department not long after school, eventually becoming Foreman with more than 30 years of dedicated service.

Todd married Vikki Patterson on August 28th, 1993, in the historic Chesham Place in Ilion. With their children Justin and Richelle, they created a life built on the love of family and days filled with organized chaos and happiness.

Todd looked forward to any opportunity to drop a line in a quiet pond or stream in the Adirondacks. Like any good fisherman, he probably had more fish stories than actual fish, but the stories were awesome. Even more than a relaxing day in the woods, Todd loved to be part of the party, not just a part of the crowd. He enjoyed a good game of golf as much as spending time with friends at any of the clubs and organizations in town. While he seldom requested help for anything, he was quick to offer his own time. He was committed to his opinions but willing to listen to yours.

Todd was truly happiest when surrounded by family. He planned several events each year to bring family and friends to his beloved Trading Post at home. Halloween movie night was a family favorite. He loved to cook and there was always hot food on the grill and cold drinks in the fridge. For years Todd and Vikki organized family holidays, the biggest being Thanksgiving, which eventually grew to include so many they had to use the K of C to have enough room for everyone. And after days of planning and cooking and serving a couple of turkeys with all the sides for 30 or 40, Todd still managed to be sure Santa made a quick appearance to get a good start on all of the kids’ Christmas lists.

Todd quickly put aside anything he may have been doing if Vikki and the kids needed him. He supported Justin in every way as he took part in school musicals and plays and continuously worked to develop all of his talents. When Jay and two of his friends decided to start a garage band and Todd realized the boys were pretty serious, Todd and Vikki provided a place to practice and even a way to move their equipment when they started playing. Todd took enormous pride as the first official roadie. Then boys were too young, so he served as a driver and a chaperone at all of their early gigs.

Richelle was also busy with school and playing sports as well. Todd and Vikki were at all of Richelle’s games, either on the bleachers or helping with the concessions or setting up fields. Between games they had practices and fundraisers. And there were all of the other school activities of course. After school Todd and Vikki continued to stand with Justin and Richelle as they looked forward to everything life brings, growing families, new challenges and opportunities. Todd was there.

The only thing which could garner more of Todd’s attention than Justin and Richelle were the grandkids, Jake, Jameson, Brody and Oliver. He was the proudest of grandfathers and there were no limits to what he would do for them. Todd shared an incredible, strong, personal bond with each of the grandkids. He loved to watch Oliver’s love of music grow, he learned so much from Jameson’s enduring strength in the short time he was with us, he truly enjoyed Jake’s inquisitive spirit, and he shared Brody’s love of sports, especially wrestling. Todd was there. Todd was always there. And in his moments of pride, or while sharing a quick joke, you might notice a small grin in the corner of his mouth. You might not see it right away, he didn’t always wear a big smile, he didn’t frequently laugh out loud. He laughed with his heart, and you saw it in his eyes. Try as he might to hide them, his pride and his joy were unmistakable.

Todd is survived by his beloved wife Vikki; his children and grandchildren; Justin and Jessica Smithson and Oliver, Richelle and Shawn Devereese and Jake and Brody; his sister Robyn Damron, his sister and brother-in-law Lynne and Mike Orendorf, his special aunts; Bridget and Peter Snyder, Barbara Smithson, and Toni Foisy, many special nieces, nephews, cousins, many special friends, including several who were like family; Tim Day, Jeff Steele, and Lorrie Bates, as well as his friends from the Winter Club and the Knights Of Columbus, his Class of 1981 and Ilion Golden Bombers schoolmates, and his coworkers. He also leaves his beloved pets Louie and Stewart.

Todd was predeceased by his grandson Jameson, his parents, Bob and Jane, and Vikki’s parents, Janet and Chick Patterson.

Vikki and the kids invite family and friends to gather at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 11th, 2026, at the Ilion Knights of Columbus to share memories as we celebrate Todd’s life.

Please consider donations to the Herkimer County Humane Society in Todd’s name as a remembrance.

The family would like to thank the Ilion Fire Department, the Ilion Police Department and Kevin Enea for all of their care and compassion during this very difficult time.

Todd’s final care arrangements have been entrusted to The Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road in Ilion, New York. His obituary may be viewed on the funeral home website at www.eneafamily.com on the Internet.

Todd - thank you for always being there for us, for teaching us we had the ability to achieve all of our goals, and for giving us everything we need to do so.

All our love, forever.
