🎃 Halloween Safety Tips from the OBH Emergency Department (Part 2): Candy & Food Allergies

The safest option for Halloween treats is commercially packaged, store-bought candy.

• Homemade treats can unintentionally contain allergens such as peanuts, tree nuts, or gluten.
• Parents of children with food allergies should always read candy labels carefully before allowing kids to enjoy them.
• Helpful tip: Sort candy into “safe” and “unsafe” piles, and consider supporting the Teal Pumpkin Project, which encourages offering non-food treats for children with allergies.

🎃 Halloween Safety Tips from the OBH Emergency Department

As excitement for Halloween builds this week, our Emergency Department team shares a few reminders to help keep the night fun and safe.

Halloween is all about costumes, candy, and community—but it’s also a time when preventable injuries and allergic reactions can happen. Here are some easy ways to help keep kids safe while trick-or-treating:

• Be visible: Add reflective tape to costumes or carry glow sticks or flashlights so drivers can easily see children.
• Use sidewalks and crosswalks: Walk in groups and stay in well-lit areas whenever possible.
• Check costumes: Make sure costumes fit well to prevent tripping, and that masks don’t block vision.

Wishing everyone a spooky, safe, and fun Halloween! 👻
