Help us give this new guy a name!!

He is here from Kentucky Humane Society Equine CARE and they called him Freight Train, but we just can't seem to make that stick.

He is reportedly a TB, has been running unhandled for many years, and was unrated due to Lordosis.

His goals here are to stop being afraid of every noise and movement, learn some basic manners and hopefully find a companion or non riding home.

4 years ago started our journey of fostering and training for Heart of Phoenix Equine Rescue, INC ..

So many snoots have been booped, miles traveled, forever matches made...

Here's to the withers scratched, the lessons taught, those we held as they took their final breath, and the many more horses who we have yet to meet...

We became TAA and STA accredited, we have went from 10 stalls to 14, have attended 4 ATFO's and learned so much!

Life's a stall, no matter what, just keep mucking it out!

About 8 weeks ago this pretty thing started being spotted at the barn, starved for fold. No one claimed it and it kept hanging around so we set a live trap.
He/she is at the vet getting spayed/ neutered today and vaccinated.

This cat is feral and a flight risk, but has been in a large dog crate the last 12 ish days. Would anyone want to give it a quiet dog free indoor home??

This week's "Horse of the Week is.... JAKE

Q. Hey Jake, I see you are the horse of the week.. tell us, how you met the fine folks at Black Star..

A. Well, I was born and raised in the hills of WV, and I spent a great 13 years on a beautiful farm.. and my owners decided it would be great to train me.. I was super excited to participate, so excited that they ended up wanting to "consult a professional"

Q. How big an ol' boy are ya ?

A. 15 + hands...whatever that means

Q. What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment at Black Star?

A. Well, for a little bit I was SOOO brave... but then stuff got sketchy, other horses here said my teacher was an "arena skiing champion, to which I said "you ain't seen nothing yet..."..then I got "tik tok famous" after taking him on a tour of his own arena...

Q. So what happened after that?!

A. I learned the "under saddle" stuff isn't so bad.. and Craig may be a contender as my BFF.

Q. What's your plan from here?

A. To teach my hoomans the Gospel of Black Star, and I can't wait to see Maverick in the Spring of 2026 and teach him he is still just a child!

Q. Do you answer to any other names?
A. 🎵 Jake, Jacob , Ni**od, Schmitt, his name is my name too...🎵
