It is Movement Monday, and this week we are diving into one of the most important questions in Parkinson's care: why does movement matter? 💜🚶

For those living with Parkinson's disease, staying active is about so much more than fitness. Regular movement can help reduce stiffness, improve balance and coordination, support mental and emotional wellbeing, and make a meaningful difference in overall quality of life.

The best part? It does not have to be intense. Even gentle, intentional movement can have a real impact.
Follow along as we break it all down this Movement Monday! đź’Ş

Walking for Awareness, Families, and Hope

Alzheimer’s disease affects far more than memory—it changes lives, families, and futures.

Every diagnosis brings uncertainty, emotional strain, and difficult decisions. Families often find themselves stepping into caregiving roles they never expected, balancing love, responsibility, and exhaustion. Moments that once felt simple—conversations, shared memories, daily routines—can slowly become more challenging, and the impact is felt deeply by everyone involved.

That is why raising awareness is so important.

The Alzheimer’s Association continues to do incredible work—providing education, resources, advocacy, and funding research toward better treatments and, one day, a cure. Supporting this mission means supporting millions of families who are navigating this journey every day.

We are proud to sponsor and participate in local efforts like the Alzheimer’s Walk and Resource Fair in Monroe, helping bring awareness, education, and support to Union County and surrounding communities .

This event is not just about walking—it’s about equipping caregivers with meaningful resources, connecting them with local support services, and helping them feel less alone in their journey. Caregivers carry an incredible responsibility, and having access to the right tools, education, and community support can make a profound difference.

This walk is a reminder that no family—and no caregiver—is alone in this fight.

We walk for those we have lost.
We walk for those living with Alzheimer’s today.
We walk for caregivers who give so much of themselves.
And we walk for a future where this disease no longer exists.

If you are able, we encourage you to support the Alzheimer’s Association—through participation, donations, or simply by spreading awareness.

Together, we can make a meaningful difference.

Not all fats are created equal. Some fats help support heart and brain health, while others are best enjoyed in moderation. Understanding the difference can make everyday food choices easier. đź«’đź’ś

Good fats are typically unsaturated fats. These fats can help support cholesterol levels, brain function, and overall heart health. You’ll often find them in foods like:
• Avocados
• Olive oil and canola oil
• Nuts and seeds
• Fatty fishlike salmon and tuna

Bad fats are usually saturated or trans fats. Eating too much of these fats may increase the risk of heart health concerns, so they are best limited when possible. Common sources include:
• Fried foods
• Processed snacks
• Baked goods made with shortening
• Fast food meals and processed meats

Choosing more good fats and limiting bad fats is one simple way to support healthy aging through nutrition.

At the 25th County Active living & Wellness Expo, we had the opportunity to present on a topic that is becoming increasingly important for families and healthcare partners alike—how to create a safer home environment for seniors using simple, practical technology.

Instead of focusing only on care services, we shared how small home adjustments—paired with easy-to-use tools—can significantly improve safety, independence, and overall quality of life.

The engagement and thoughtful questions from attendees made this especially meaningful. It’s encouraging to see so many families and professionals looking for proactive ways to support aging at home.

We were also proud to partner with Helpers of Charlotte and connect with other community organizations who share a commitment to improving outcomes for seniors across our region.

Grateful for the opportunity to present and be part of a community that continues to prioritize senior safety and well-being.

In recognition of Brain Awareness Week, it’s a great time to highlight foods that support brain health at every age. 🧠💜

Here are a few brain-healthy foods to keep in mind:
• Fatty fish like salmon and tuna
• Leafy greens such as spinach and kale
• Berries, especially blueberries and strawberries
• Nuts and seeds like walnuts and flaxseed
• Whole grains that support steady energy
• Olive oil for healthy fats

Pairing balanced nutrition with other healthy habits can help support memory, focus, and overall brain wellness as we age.

Eating well does not have to be expensive. 🥕💜

A few smart choices can help seniors and caregivers enjoy nutritious meals while sticking to a budget:

• Plan simple meals ahead of time to avoid food waste
• Choose store brands, frozen fruits, and frozen vegetables
• Cook once and enjoy leftovers for another meal
• Buy in-season produce when possible
• Use beans, lentils, and eggs as affordable protein options

Healthy eating can be practical, affordable, and supportive of healthy aging.
