Today we celebrate and remember the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. Not only was he an impactful civil rights leader and dedicated member of the service community, but he was also a sufferer of depression.

Let's take a moment today to live his words and if we are enduring mental health conditions, let's not be afraid to take the first step.

Our Centers are open for regular business hours today.

It's National Winnie the Pooh Day!

Created by English author A.A. Milne, the Winnie the Pooh stories originated in a tale about his son's stuffed teddy bear. The stories also feature his son as Christopher Robin and other stuffed animals the boy played with at the time.

What does this have to do with mental health, you may wonder? Unofficially, a "theory" stems from a Canadian Medical Association's article that "diagnosed" each character.

Pooh: ADHD (meaning it is tough to focus; he also has impulsivity with obsessive fixations)

Piglet: Generalized Anxiety Disorder. (The theory states that Piglet may have suffered from an injury that crippled his self-esteem)

Owl: Dyslexia and Short-Term Memory Loss

Tigger: ADHD (yeah, we figured all the 'springing' around gave this one some validity)

Kanga: Social Anxiety Disorder

Roo: Autism. He lacks awareness of danger and is attached to sitting in his mother's pouch.

Rabbit: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). (He is very orderly and obsessive)

Eeyore: Depressive Disorder

Christopher Robin: Schizophrenia. It is believed that all the characters above are manifestations of Christopher's mood.

True or not, these characters are relatable, and their stories are based on kindness and acceptance.

"The things that make me different are the things that make me, me."
—Piglet

Feeling the chill of winter? ❄️You're not alone!
Now that winter seems to have made its way back, the colder temps can bring a touch of the blues. But hey, let's beat those winter blues together! Here are a few tips to warm your spirits:

1. Embrace the coziness: Snuggle up with a warm blanket, a good book, or your favorite movie.

2. Get moving: Exercise can boost your mood! Try a winter sport, take a walk, or do an indoor workout.

3. Light it up: Open curtains during the day for natural light and consider using a light therapy lamp if you do not have access to natural light.

4. Stay connected: Reach out to friends and loved ones.

5. Practice self-care: Treat yourself to small things that bring joy, like a hot shower, family time, or planning for that summer vacation.

Remember, it's OK to be not OK. Let's support each other through these winter days and focus on longer and brighter days ahead!

"Where there is TRUST, there is HOPE. Build RELATIONSHIPS and become EMPOWERED! ACCEPT yourself with DIGNITY, and then you will feel SAFE."
~Unknown

Our conception of healing weaves these seven principles together to create a sanctuary for rebuilding. It's not "What's wrong with you?" It's "What happened to you?"

We are here for you.

We are proud to celebrate Melissa Wolfe, licensed clinical social worker and outpatient therapist, on her recent certification in EMDR treatment!

Melissa joins two CGC team members in practicing EMDR during treatment planning.

What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is an evidence-based, structured form of psychotherapy that helps individuals heal from trauma and distressing life events by processing upsetting memories, reducing their emotional impact, and promoting healthier perspectives. It involves the client briefly focusing on a traumatic memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation (BLS). Stimulation options include visual (finger movements to induce side-to-side eye movements), auditory (alternating sounds), or tactile (tapping or buzzing devices), which help the brain hemispheres communicate to reprocess the memory, resolve the feeling of being stuck, and resume normal healing. This therapy can achieve fast results in some clients.

Is EMDR therapy right for you?

Call us to find out more.
