🤰✨ What Is a Membrane Sweep? ✨👶
As you approach the end of pregnancy, your healthcare provider may offer a membrane sweep to help naturally encourage labor. This simple procedure is usually done during a cervical exam.
During a membrane sweep, your provider gently inserts a gloved finger into the cervix and separates the amniotic membrane from the uterine wall. This can release natural hormones (prostaglandins) that may help kick-start labor.

💡 Why it’s done:
• May reduce the need for medical induction
• Helps the body move toward labor naturally
• Often offered near or after 39–40 weeks
🩺 What to expect:
• Mild discomfort or cramping
• Light spotting
• Labor may begin within hours or days — but not always
A membrane sweep is generally safe, but it’s always your choice. Talk with your doctor or midwife about whether it’s right for you and what to expect. Every body and every pregnancy is different — trust your journey! ❤️
