🧐 so what is RA?
Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic autoimmune disease where the immune system mistakenly attacks the joints, causing inflammation that can lead to pain, swelling, stiffness, and even joint damage over time. It can also affect other parts of the body like the lungs, eyes, skin, and heart.
Unlike osteoarthritis, which is caused by wear and tear, RA is systemic — it can impact multiple organs and often starts between ages 30–60. Early signs include morning stiffness lasting longer than 30 minutes, fatigue, and symmetrical joint swelling (usually starting in the hands or feet).
If you’re noticing ongoing joint pain or fatigue, don’t ignore it. Getting evaluated by a rheumatologist early on can make a big difference in long-term outcomes.
