New Blog Post: Autumn with ARFID

Autumn can bring cozy meals, new flavors, and social gatherings — which can all feel overwhelming when you’re living with ARFID.

Remember: it’s okay if your version of “fall food” looks different.

As the weather changes, so do the foods, routines, and expectations around eating. Suddenly everything smells like pumpkin spice! Foods like soups, ciders, and apples start to replace summer foods.

If you live with ARFID, these seasonal shifts can be extra challenging — not because you’re doing anything wrong, but because change itself can feel overwhelming.

Here are a few gentle reminders as we head into fall:

🍁 You don’t have to like “fall foods”
🍁 You can explore new foods at your own pace
🍁 Comfort foods are still valid, even when they don’t “fit the season”

Small steps are still progress — maybe it’s trying a new version of a safe food, adding one new brand, or simply being open to the idea of trying.

Growth doesn’t have to happen all at once. Even fall takes its time to change.

Choosing goals in ARFID recovery can feel overwhelming. Sometimes the steps feel too big, or the goals feel too far away. The truth is—your goals don’t have to look like anyone else’s.

Base your goals off of what you or your loved ones needs are in the moment.

💜Is there a medical/nutrition concerns that needs to be addressed?
💜Is there a social event coming up that you or your loved one would like to participate in?
💜Is there a sport or activity that is really important to you or your loved one that could be a motivator in creating a goal?

Recovery is not about perfection—it’s about progress you can sustain.

What’s one small goal you could set for yourself this week?

New Blog Post - ARFID Recovery: Becoming More Flexible

This blog explores one important recovery skill: increasing flexibility. Flexibility is what helps us move from that instant “no” to “maybe there’s another way.” Learning to adjust foods instead of rejecting them outright can make a world of difference in recovery.

After a lot of hard work, a client was able to stay the full week of his summer camp. His mother said this was the first year he was able to stay!

There is still a lot of work to do, but these wins show recovery is worth it!

"Choosing treatment goals is more important than we may think… but a lot harder than it looks."

When you’re in recovery — whether from ARFID or any eating disorder — it’s tempting to set vague or unrealistic goals like “I’ll just eat normally” or “I’ll stop being afraid of food.”

But the truth is…
💜Goals work best when they’re specific, achievable, and personal to you
💜They help guide each step so you’re not overwhelmed by the big picture
💜They give you something to celebrate along the way — because small wins are wins

Instead of a goal of “eat more foods,” try:

“Add one new fruit to my safe food list this month.”

“Bring one safe snack to a social event.”

If you’re not sure where to start, the Bridge the Food Gap workbook walks you through choosing treatment goals that are realistic, empowering, and tailored to your ARFID recovery journey.
