In a world full of voices, influencers, preachers, teachers, and leaders, it’s easy to confuse the messenger with the message. But no person, no matter how anointed, can take the place of God in your life.
The Danger:
When we start relying solely on people for our spiritual direction, we risk idolizing them, even unintentionally. That’s dangerous. Why?
Because people are fallible. Even the most well-meaning leaders can:
• Misinterpret Scripture
• Lead from emotion
• Fall into sin
Jeremiah 17:5 (ESV) warns:
“Thus says the Lord: ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord.’”
Know Him for Yourself:
God never designed our relationship with Him to be secondhand. Christ died to rip the veil (Matthew 27:51) — so YOU can come directly to the Father.
John 10:27
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
Don’t settle for someone else’s walk with God. Open the Bible. Pray. Ask questions. Let the Holy Spirit lead you.
2 Timothy 2:15
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”
Build Your Own Relationship with Christ:
• Read the Word daily
• Pray with honesty
• Listen for His voice
• Test all things by Scripture
(1 Thessalonians 5:21)
Let no person, no matter how popular or persuasive, become your source. Let Christ be your foundation.
1 Corinthians 3:11
“For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
Follow people as they follow Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1), but never let them replace Christ.
Know Him. Walk with Him. Love Him. For yourself! 🙏🏽
