❄️ FROSTBITE EDUCATION: PROTECTING KIDS THIS WINTER ❄️
Cold temperatures can cause frostbite when skin and tissues freeze, most often affecting fingers, toes, ears, noses, and cheeks. Knowing how to prevent, recognize, and treat frostbite can help keep children safe during winter weather.
🧤 HOW TO PREVENT FROSTBITE
• Dress children in warm layers
• Cover exposed skin with hats, gloves, scarves, and socks
• Keep clothing dry
• Limit time outdoors in very cold or windy conditions
👀 HOW TO RECOGNIZE FROSTBITE
• Skin that looks pale, white, or gray
• Numbness or tingling
• Cold, hard, or waxy-feeling skin
• Pain or swelling as the skin warms
🚑 HOW TO TREAT FROSTBITE
• Move indoors or to a warm area immediately
• Gently warm the affected area using warm (not hot) water
• Do NOT rub or massage frozen skin
• Avoid direct heat like heating pads or hot water
• Seek medical care if symptoms are severe or do not improve
