Bluem Herbal Bodywork Bluem Herbal Bodywork (formerly Blue Ether) is a massage and bodywork practice. Deep breathing, and occasional laughter is encouraged.

My goal is to help people live with less pain and stress using massage therapy, yoga, and mindfulness. Bluem Herbal Bodywork (formerly Blue Ether) is a massage and bodywork practice that incorporates elements of mindfulness and a touch of herbalism. It is a space of mind-body reconnection, a space where you can let down all your troubles for a time and reconnect to yourself. My ultimate goal, at least right now, is to own and operate a tea shop/massage practice downtown Indy. A space where I can still see clients, and also hold community based events such as herbal workshops, yoga/mindfulness classes, etc. The world could use another zen space. The spaces I utilize to see clients and work with the public are free from judgement, and hateful words/actions are not tolerated. Please, please, please, do your best to be kind.

The Yoga 101 workshop is coming up just next week! If you are brand stinking new to yoga, or just want a good refresher on the basics, then this is the class for you! We will be going over different types of yoga, the ethics and morals of it all, breathing exercises, and all of the basic poses that give us a standard sun salutation (a common flow in yoga classes). Most importantly, all of this includes snacks and tea!

Not everyone is a fan of homework, but sometimes it's required to keep your body and mind in good shape! Between your massage appointments there are plenty of ways you can tend to yourself. A simple google search will yield almost unlimited results. In case you don't want to do that, here's a list from your friendly neighborhood massage therapist!

Massage yourself! Truly, there are some spots that only someone else can hit just right, but there are still so many spots that you can get! Kneading your calves and thighs, squeezing your forearms, gently knuckle raking the sides of your ribs are just a few examples of ways you can massage yourself.

I've not used a foam roller too much until recently. I'm a changed person! They can let us release so many tense spots that we can't get ourselves. Spots I recommend rolling (personal needs may vary) are the thighs, glutes, back, and the back of the shoulder on the side of the shoulder blade.

Learn some stretches and gentle workouts. Motion is lotion, and it's true. Even simple, very lightweight or no weight, movements keep the joints lubricated and blood moving.

When I tell people to gaze out into the distance as far as possible, I sometimes get funny looks. Often we stare into phones, screens, or are confined to rooms where our vision is limited to close up. Our neck muscles work diligently to stabilize our head for close up vision. Letting the eyes gaze far into the distance not only let's the eye muscles relax, but it can break up those deep holding patterns in the neck.

Taking a moment to re-oxygenate your cells is never a bad thing. Developing a practice, even just for a few moments a day to find stillness and contentment is also never a bad thing. Both of these things can even serve as a great way to check in with how your body and mind are handling stress currently.

Sometimes on the table you may notice your limbs getting cooler, or your belly gurgling spontaneously. These are good signs! When you're in a place that you can put down stressors, your nervous system can step into what's called rest and digest mode, or your parasympathetic nervous system. This is when your body is putting itself back together, digesting food, and generating more energy for later. It's a healing moment!

I always have these two herbal oil blends available for use! I find the lavender, chamomile, and oat oil to be more relaxing and the eucalyptus, peppermint, and lemon balm feels more invigorating. That being said, you can request them for whatever kind of massage you'd like!

Worried about overpowering scents of the oils? Don't be! These blends are steeped from the dried herbs and their scents tend to be very mild. You get all of the feel goods without leaving like you just visited a perfume department! 😄

Our legs and feet take a beating: walking, running, jumping, even just prolonged standing can be taxing. When problems start to show up in the legs, inevitably it will affect the hips. Which then affects the back. Which then affects the neck. You see where this is going, right?
