A child’s sleep environment is very important for a good night’s sleep. A good rule of thumb is to make sure the room cool, dark, and quiet. If a child is too hot or cold, too bright, or too loud it can disturb their sleep quality. For most, a room temperature of 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal. Keep the room dark and avoid using closet lights or overhead lights. Blackout curtains can help- especially in summer when it remains bright outside well into evening. A small nightlight is fine for any young kids with nighttime fears, but you should not be able to read a book and the nightlight shoukd@not be directly next to the crib or bed. Minimize awakenings from noise outside their room with a white noise machine if needed.
A proper sleep environment is the first step toward a good nights sleep!
