Where to start!? My husband and I were not 5 minutes into our first prenatal call with Lauren, Katlynn and Laurelen when he said: this is worth every penny.
Although I loved my team of midwives I was getting care from, I had heard that hiring an doula was also pretty important if I wanted to avoid interventions while in labor. When it came time to find a doula, we had just bought a house and the investment amidst adjusting to being pregnant felt huge, but we were sure we wanted “the right team in the room” and this was that, and more!
We had the right team in the room to healthfully and beautifully bring our daughter into this world, but we also got priceless information prior to labor that I cannot imagine not having or the hours of research it would have taken to sort through it. We had trusted people to ask questions of, prepare my body well, and prepare mentally. The doula team enabled my husband to be as involved as he hoped to be, and empowered me to make informed care decisions prior to and during labor.
When labor came fast and furious, Katlynn was an amazing, informed, and calm presence. She kept reminding me of my progress and helped us to know the right next steps all until our new family of 3 was settled after birth. Yes, the goal was a safe delivery, but in dreaming beyond that, we wanted a birth we looked back on and smiled at. We can say we accomplished that and even dare to be excited to do it again!
