As we wrap up School Social Work Week 2026, we recognize that our Code of Ethics champions social justice as an integral core value of social work practice. We are called to “challenge social injustice” and “promote sensitivity to and knowledge about oppression and cultural and ethnic diversity”. We participate in this in a variety of ways such as reaching out to our local and national legislators, walking alongside those experiencing oppression, and advocating for access to all people in regards to services, information, and resources.
We had our INSSWA Day of Action last week at the Indiana Statehouse. Throughout this session, we have had INSSWA members email legislators and show up to testify. Every day, school social workers help ignite positive change through compassion, advocacy, and collaboration. Thank you all for celebrating School Social Work Week 2026!

The NASW Code of Ethics drives our practice as school social workers. This, along with a dedication to equity and social work values make up the framework for school social work practice. We encounter ethics each day working in schools in how we uphold our standards and values as social workers. We are often able to view ethics in a lens of not just black and white standards, but in the gray areas that demand us to uphold our social work values in regards to the students and families we serve. Check out our upcoming Ethics CEU opportunities to learn more about how ethics inform our daily work!

We are continuously connecting with students and families in order to help build a bridge between home and school. It is often these strong relationships and partnerships that help students find connection within the school community. Today, we highlight social work competence, a core value from the NASW Code of Ethics. We work within our areas of competence and continuously develop our expertise. Each year, we recognize school social workers across the state who reflect social work core values and demonstrate outstanding competence in their practice. These school social workers work diligently alongside students and families to provide resources, connection, and support. Do you know an amazing school social worker? It’s School Social Work Week 2026! This year’s theme, “Unite to Ignite: Going for Gold in Supporting Students” honors the power of school social workers in supporting our students, families, and schools. School social work can feel like an Olympic sport as we race against time and through obstacles to provide resources and services. Let’s celebrate the difference we make together!
