HealthNet is the largest federally qualified health center in the state of Indiana. The IUSD Student Outreach Clinic at People's Health and Dental Center is now serving the near Eastside neighborhood of Indianapolis providing dental services such as education, screenings, cleanings, fillings, and extractions. All student dental services are directly supervised by IU faculty dentist volunteers. Hours of Operation:
The clinic is open on the first and third Saturdays of every month from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Student Outreach Clinic is excited to announce that we have started seeing patients again! We are providing free dental care at the Montgomery County Free Clinic in Crawfordsville IN on Saturdays from 8-3 pm.

Thank you to our volunteers and supervising doctors that made today such a successful day seeing patients 🙂🦷🪥

If you are a Montgomery County resident interested in becoming a patient, call the clinic at (765) 362-3244 on Fridays during business hours to schedule.

If you are an IUSD student looking to volunteer, keep an eye out on your inbox to sign up! We are currently prioritizing D3s & D4s.

Portrait of SOC - Sable Staller

Hearing about SOC during the interview process was a major reason Sable decided to attend IU School of Dentistry. She began volunteering her first semester on campus and served most recently as a Coordinator of Promotions. As a D1, Sable was inspired by the passion the board members demonstrated and claimed, "I loved volunteering and seeing the immediate impact we were having on the East Side community." When asked what was most rewarding about serving as a board member Sable shared that she most enjoyed, "Getting to know the patients and giving them a dental home that they can come and feel welcome and safe." Sable is currently an orthodontic resident at IU School of Dentistry and we wish her the best in her future endeavors!

Portrait of SOC - Natalie Lorenzano

Natalie started volunteering at SOC the first semester of her D1 year and served most recently as Chair of Operations. Natalie decided to join the SOC Board because of a desire to "put more meaning behind being a dental student." Natalie graduated in May and plans to pursue a career in dental academia with the goal to "make dental school a more 'humane process', to quote one of my mentors, and also to help graduate more holistic clinicians." Natalie plans to continue helping out locally at both SOC and SEAL IN! She also intends to participate in more ISL trips, especially those to Spanish speaking countries! Natalie hopes that in the future SOC can transition to fully digital charting and be open to patients every weekend. She also wanted to share some final thoughts, "Thank you to those who came before us and good luck to those who come after! Being a part of SOC is something I will always be thankful for."

Portrait of SOC - Andrew Bartels

Andrew began volunteering at SOC by holding the door and greeting patients as an undergraduate at Butler University and has been volunteering ever since. However, a lot changed in that time, Andrew graduated earlier this month and served this past year as Executive Chair. When asked why he dedicated so much time to SOC Andrew stated, "I wanted to be able to help the dental clinic grow and expand our treatment offered to patients." The SOC definitely grew under Andrew's tenure. SOC was awarded the $100,000 Gannett Grant that funded the treatment of 107 patients! Additionally, the SOC provided its first ever endodontic treatment! Andrew will be completing a 1-year GPR at the VA in Indy and is passionate about working alongside AMPATH to open dental clinics in Kenya. Thankfully Andrew won't be too far away and he was eager to share that his time at SOC might not be over just yet. "As a VA resident, I will also have IU faculty appointment. This will allow me to come full circle and become faculty at the clinic!"
