HISTORY:
In December 2003, a small group of people from Lynhurst Baptist Church gathered to pray over a vacated nursing home at the corner of Delmar & Lynhurst Drive. They envisioned turning the place that once housed depression and death into a place of hope that would serve the needs of the community. January and February 2004 saw countless volunteer hours of scrubbing, remodeling, planning and networking; and in March 2004, LBC Community Center Inc. opened its doors to day to day ministries at this location. LBCCC has since been established as an independent nonprofit. EXPENSES – The major expenses are
• Mortgage payment ($15,000 per year)
• Utilities ($15,000 per year)
• Maintenance of heating/cooling systems
• Maintenance of the roofs, yards and parking areas
• Salaries for a minimal number of part-time staff
• Afterschool care snacks and supplies
DONATIONS: LBCCC has a limited source of income:
1. The Second Saturday Sale where most items are being sold for a quarter ($.25); and
2. Restoring Lives West (a ministry that reaches out to homeless and at-risk young adults - ph:402-5101) rents space in the building. SO - we depend on donations to keep the doors open, pay the bills and do the things we do:
Monetary - LBCCC has received donations from many community churches as part of their mission giving; from individuals who believe in our mission and as a result of being named a benefactor in someone’s will. Local Business Overflow - On occasion, LBCCC receives items that have been pulled from the shelves of local business which are then made available to the community during the Second Saturday Sale or occasionally set out with the food and provided for free. CVS - health and beauty items
Once Upon a Child – clothing and other child items
Personal Donations - We depend on donations from individuals, churches, etc. Anything that you would normally take to the Goodwill or Salvation Army, can also be given to LBCCC. On occasion, we can also assist in picking up items that you willing to donate. Garage/Yard Sale Leftovers - LBCCC is frequesntly called to come take what remains at the conclusions of church rummage sales, estate sales, auctions and individual yard/garage sales. Needs of Afterschool Care Children – LBCCC has annually been the recipient of school supply drives, winter glove/hat drives; new sock/underwear drives, etc. At times the generosity of these individuals is so great that LBCCC is often able to share the surplus with other local school-aged children either by opening the doors at the center or by taking the surplus to other community schools/centers. Afterschool Snack – Church groups and individuals occasionally will donate pre-packaged snack items or drink for the children involved with the afterschool care program. Time – Volunteers are always needed to sort/hang donations, package food items that come in bulk, give away food, etc.
