Meet Dr. Damon Dierker 😎 aka Dry Eye Guru.

He’s a graduate of the Indiana University School of Optometry and completed fellowship training in consultative optometry, specializing in diagnosing and managing complex eye diseases. In 2007, he earned Fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry — an honor awarded to only a small percentage of optometrists nationwide.

When he’s not helping patients see their best, Dr. Dierker is busy teaching the next generation of optometrists as adjunct faculty at Indiana University School of Optometry, running our clinical externship program, and lecturing to doctors across the country.

Oh, and he also founded Dry Eye Boot Camp and co-founded Eyes On Dry Eye, because he's that passionate about dry eye disease. 🦾

His clinical interests include:
👁️ Advanced dry eye treatments including Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT), TearCare, LipiFlow, iLux, BlephEx, ZEST, and Prokera (he really knows his stuff here!)

Dr. Lombardo is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in refractive, cataract, and corneal surgery, helping patients achieve clearer vision with advanced surgical care. His training includes both an M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, where his research was supported by national awards and grants from the National Institutes of Health.

After completing his internship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, he went on to complete his ophthalmology residency at the world-renowned Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He then pursued an additional fellowship in refractive surgery at Minnesota Eye Consultants.

Beyond caring for patients, Dr. Lombardo is passionate about advancing the field of ophthalmology. He trains other surgeons in LASIK and cataract surgery, has served as an investigator for FDA clinical studies, and regularly contributes to the profession through journal publications, textbook chapters, and national presentations.

We were honored to included in a donor appreciation event hosted by the Indiana Blind Children’s Foundation for a firsthand look at how the past three galas have transformed into meaningful, tangible impact.

From enhancements to preschool classrooms, to expanded adaptive technology, to the new adaptive kitchen — every space reflects not only the generosity of IBCF's supporters, but the fervent commitment of ISBVI teachers and administrators to providing meaningful opportunities to blind and low vision students.

We had the opportunity to tour the school, admired beautiful artwork, and read heartfelt words of encouragement from the Kindness Club — powerful reminders of why this work matters.

We were especially grateful to hear from keynote speaker Kathy Nimmer, 2026 Helen Keller Achievement Award recipient from the American Foundation for the Blind, whose words inspired us all to continue to focus on opening doors of happiness and ushering others through.
