When therapy is working, it doesn’t always look like big, obvious change right away.

More often, it shows up in subtle shifts:
• Your child begins to open up or express themselves more
• Big emotions feel a little less intense or pass more quickly
• You notice small moments of coping, even if the struggle is still there

In child therapy, progress often starts with connection.
When a child feels safe, understood, and supported, change follows.

And it’s not just about your child. You may find yourself feeling more confident, more clear, and more equipped in how you respond and support them at home.

Therapy working doesn’t mean everything is “fixed.”
It means your child and your family are building the tools, insight, and support needed to move forward.

If your child or family is struggling, we’re here to support you with care that is thoughtful, intentional, and tailored to your needs.

If you’re starting therapy for your child, it’s completely normal to wonder:
- How long will this take?
- Is this just something they go to once a week?
- What am I supposed to be doing?

These are good questions and here is what we know- therapy is most effective when:
✦ It is consistent
Weekly sessions build momentum. Gaps make it harder to see progress.

✦ Parents are involved
Especially with kids—what happens at home matters just as much as what happens in session.

✦ Skills are practiced at home
Skills only stick when they’re used in real life.

We also know that therapy:
✦ Takes time
Meaningful, lasting change doesn’t happen overnight.

✦ It won’t always feel easy
Some parts of the process can feel uncomfortable before things improve.

If your child or family is struggling, we would love to come alongside you to help support your child, and you, in feeling more confident, connected, and equipped.

When therapy is working, families can feel the difference.

We regularly ask parents for feedback so we can stay accountable to what actually matters.

Are we perfect? No.
Are we committed to listening, adjusting, and improving? Absolutely.

These numbers reflect what matters most:
✔ Kids feeling understood
✔ Parents feeling confident in the fit
✔ Sessions that stay focused and meaningful

And when something isn’t working, we want to know, so we can make it right.

Because your child deserves therapy that truly helps.

Today our owner, Jessica Hood, completed another 2 day training on OCD and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). With this training, the number of therapists we’ve trained in ERP has now surpassed 100 🎉

We are passionate about making sure children, teens, and families have access to excellent, effective OCD treatment, even if that care isn’t with us! Every training means more therapists in our community who can provide evidence-based treatment for OCD.

We’re excited to add more names to our referral list and proud that all of our clinicians at Indy Child Therapist are fully ERP-trained.

Know a child or teen struggling with OCD or anxiety?
We’re always happy to help families connect with the right support, whether that’s with our team or another ERP trained therapist in the community.

KEEPING KIDS SAFE ONLINE
Owner and mom, Jessica Hood, shares some tips for keeping your kids safe online.
1. Have ongoing conversations with your kids.
Start talking about online safety around age 5 and continue as kids grow. Teach them never to share their name, phone number, address, school, or location with anyone online they do not know in real life. Around ages 8–10, begin talking about online grooming and explain that it often does not look obvious or dangerous at first.

2. Set app download permissions.
Require a passcode for downloading new apps and ensure your child cannot change that password (typically in privacy settings). Know what apps your child is using and what they are designed to do, especially whether they allow messaging, chat, or contact with strangers (YES roblox does all!). Common Sense Media is a helpful resource for understanding apps and age recommendations.

3. Set internet limitations.
Ensure their internet turns off at a certain time and no phone in bedrooms after bedtime (yes, they should have one of these!). Sleep science and child safety guidelines both support keeping devices in common areas during bedtime!

4. Monitor and stay involved.
Know who your child is communicating with online and regularly review their friend lists and activity. Ask about anyone you do not recognize and encourage open communication if something online feels uncomfortable or confusing.
