The last beam for the new East Indianapolis VA Clinic, located at 9420 E. 21st Street, Indianapolis, was bolted into place today, Friday, March 13, with nearly 100 signatures from Veterans, family members, workers, and dignitaries. The beam was hoisted into place with a U.S. Flag and evergreen branch. The tradition of hoisting an evergreen branch atop the last beam of a new building is rooted in ancient Scandinavian and Norse customs. It symbolizes life, growth, and continuity, making it a fitting emblem for the new building’s final function. The evergreen aspect is particularly meaningful as it represents ongoing vitality and protection.

The 54,000 sq/ft structure is scheduled to open in spring of 2027.

Our Story

Veteran Health Indiana (VHI) improves the health of the men and women who have so proudly served our nation. We receive Veterans from across the Hoosier State and referrals from Illinois. The Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis is the flagship tertiary care facility for VHI, the home base for a comprehensive system of inpatient and outpatient care across Indiana. We’re expanding even more - a new 80,000 sq. ft. facility in Brownsburg will serve 20,000 Veterans yearly. We have several active VA Clinics in strategic placement for the convenience of our patients - see Community Directory for more information.
