First, to our incredible team — every CNA, nurse, dietary worker, and each person in between — thank you for everything you do to enhance the lives of our residents each and every day. Your dedication and heart never go unnoticed.

A special thank you to our Administrator and DON for leading with such care and compassion. We appreciate you more than words can say.

To our residents’ families, thank you for entrusting us with your loved ones. And to our wonderful residents — thank you for making each day brighter. We absolutely love having you with us!

🌟 Please join us in congratulating our Star of the Week, James Cole! 🌟

James is a 72-year-old who came to The Waters of Indianapolis in February 2025 for rehabilitation following a stroke. His goal was to regain independence and eventually return home.

When James first arrived, he faced weakness and both expressive and receptive aphasia, making communication very difficult. He was unable to walk or complete daily self-care tasks such as bathing, dressing, or toileting.

Through dedication and determination, James worked hard with our physical, occupational, and speech therapy teams to rebuild his strength, balance, independence, and communication skills.

In just three short months, James made outstanding progress — he is now able to ambulate independently, complete self-care and light homemaking tasks, and communicate his wants and needs.

James was overjoyed to discharge home with family and is motivated to continue therapy with plans to return to his own home in the near future. 💙

Congratulations, James — your hard work and perseverance inspire us all! 👏

Alpha Home was founded in the 1800s by the Alpha Home Association and was originally established as a residence for aged African American women in Indianapolis who had no family to care for them. For decades, it stood as one of the few places where elderly Black women could find refuge, dignity, and community during segregation and beyond. Today, as part of The Waters family, Alpha Home proudly carries forward this rich legacy of care, compassion, and cultural heritage. 🖤
