Who we are
Emberwood Center offers an array of services in an individual, family, or group setting, addressing mental health (ages two and above) and addictions issues (ages 11 and above).
We provide therapy for issues such as depression, anxiety, familial/relationship issues, and children’s behavioral issues and incorporate art therapy and theraplay among other tools, when appropriate. We specialize in treating trauma and its effects, and receive special funding that allows us to provide free services to survivors of crime; this can include any type of abuse, human trafficking, acts of violence, or witnessing an act of violence or crime.
We also focus on addictions treatment (substance use and gambling) and accept any level of motivation or path to recovery that our clients wish to take. Some people that come to us are concerned about their use of alcohol and other drugs, or it is their parent or spouse who is concerned for their loved one. Many individuals are ordered into treatment by the courts or probation, or as a condition for the return of their children. Schools may also make referrals based on behaviors that violate school policy. There are many circumstances that lead individuals to our center; regardless of the details, we treat everyone with respect, dignity, and integrity. We believe that the cornerstone of any effective program is a quality assessment. Our assessments take the entire individual into account, including their family, social environment, and life circumstances. When dealing with a disease such as addiction, which has biological, psychological, and social components, it is critical to take a holistic approach. When dealing with a complex issue, such as trauma, it is essential to explore all the factors and incorporate the person’s resources and supports. The comprehensive assessment allows us to plan for the services each clients needs and base treatment decisions on the individual’s needs and specific situation. We involve a multi-disciplinary team in the decision of assigning the most appropriate clinician and in our overall treatment planning. There are a wide variety of approaches to treatment and recovery, and we believe that the best approach is to provide services individually tailored to the needs of the person and his or her family. We utilize evidence-based approaches based on research, and we also believe that peer support groups are critical to anyone’s ongoing recovery. Our Advocates and Peer Coaches can assist in finding helpful community resources as well as community supports to enhance and strengthen our clients’ recovery.
