I am offering a carotid artery thickness testCIMT) with ultrasound in my office on April 10th. The test takes 20 minutes and it can determine if you have increased risk for coronary artery disease. Quite a few patients have done this in the past, in that I have been making the test available once a year for the past three years.. The best patient profile for considering the test is someone with a significant family history of heart attack or coronary blockage or stenting.
( Under age 60). Also if you have other risks like hypertension/high blood pressure and or high cholesterol, or you smoke this would be something to think about. If I have already told you, or you know you have artery blockage, then you don't need to do the test The company running the tests come in from Cincinnati for the day. There is a charge of $199 at the time of testing, where if you did it on your own it costs $400.If you are interested, call the office and you can be scheduled for a 20 minute time slot. I will discuss the results with you, and you will receive a copy of the interpretation about one week later.

some messages from last nights talk on Balance:
we need our eyes, hearing and our brain to maintain balance.
the most dangerous place in the home for falls is the tub/shower!Have a clear door or clear shower curtain to help you visually and hand rails to help with your brain/leg strength, if you have stability problems. There are 2 therapists(PTs) who can work with you if you need help. Stephanie Ford 2c91st Meridian and Sharon Dillies at the Balance Center of Indiana on north shadeland.
You can train your brain to be better at balance control. simple exercises done on a regular basis WORK.
Here are two:

Get up from a chair 10x in a row not leaning on the arms to get up.
walk a straight line heel to toe one foot at a time making sure the back foot heel is in the air and try to maintain your balance for 10 slow steps
Exercise has four components:Cardio, Flexibility, Strenthening, and BALANCE. Tai Chi does all of those to some extent
