What amazing news!

I am excited to announce that today it is official: District 14 is home to two "new" Cultural Districts. With today's approval by the Metropolitan Development Commission, the City has officially recognized Irvington and Community Heights for their contributions to the Eastside and Indianapolis.

I want to thank the Irvington Community Council for their years of advocacy on behalf of the rich arts and cultural history in Irvington, and to the Irvington Development Organization for their focus and community building to bring organizations together and for their strong application. The $5,000 grant will help to further bring the various Irvington organizations together toward collective goals and a unified mission for the future of the neighborhood.

I also want to thank Community Heights Neighborhood Organization for their relentless and consistent ability to demonstrate the strength of what a motivated, dedicated group of neighborhood leaders can do for their community and the example they provide for neighborhoods around our City. CHNO will receive $23,500 to support the installation of light pole banners with Community Heights branding. This award is a continuation of their YEARS of hard work and the momentum they continue to build.

I could not be more proud of these two D14 neighborhoods and their leadership. Expanding cultural districts beyond the downtown and midtown corridors and providing FUNDING for these districts was a campaign pledge of mine, and I am grateful to have played a small role to uplift the amazing work of these neighbors - demonstrating what they are capable of when government does its job and works better for people. Again, congratulations - now let's get back to it!
