I visited my mom in Tampa for my son’s spring break last week and I had a thought: “Being on the beach and in the ocean makes me feel as good as if I had just gotten a full body massage… is there a correlation?” Once I was back home I did a deep dive on Google and did in-fact find proof that the body goes through a healing process when in that type of environment!

The repetition of waves washing up slows down the nervous system responses!

The salty air that evaporates works to clear congestion in the respiratory system, you breathe deeper and better!

Being weightless in the water takes pressure off your body!

3 controversial things I do as a massage therapist:

1. Fascia Blasting
While I hate that the brand has turned into bs making promises with photoshopped images, the science is there! I specifically love using the tools on clients who have "knotted" fascia or heavily restricted scar tissue. There's no limit on areas that can be worked like there would be for scraping or even cupping!

2. Firm pressure prenatal massages
When I was pregnant, I only requested deep tissue work up until my bump got too big to be face down. Why? Because I knew what my body was needing and it wasn't needing to feel like I was the family dog getting pats at the Christmas party. A lot of LMTs are nervous to work on prenatal clients and use more than light pressure. Pregnant women aren't made of glass! In fact, 9 times out of 10 they want more pressure in their sessions! Am I going to do a sport type deep tissue? ABSOLUTELY NOT! But I am going to use a firm and comfortable pressure if that is what they are looking to receive.

3. Sometimes pain leads to gain
To me, there's a clear line between therapeutics and abuse. If your psoas muscle is inhibiting your range and ability, lets fix it. It's not going to feel good in the process, but once you get over that hill and see your improvement, your only regret will be that you didn't do it sooner! Is pain always going to be the answer? Nope! Anything that can take the client outside their comfort zone is going to be a last resort for me.

Your body isn’t just muscles… it’s a full-body web 🕸️

Fascia connects EVERYTHING, which means that tightness in one area can show up somewhere completely different. That “random” pain? It might not be so random after all.

When fascia becomes restricted, you feel it as tension, stiffness, or limited movement. When it’s healthy? Your body moves the way it’s supposed to.

Think of it like this:
Hydrated + mobile fascia = better movement, less pain

Neglected fascia = tight, restricted, uncomfortable
