Sleeping 😴

Patients are always asking us here, "Why do I always wake up in pain? What is the best sleeping position?"

While there is no perfect position for everybody, the side lying position has given me the best results with my patients specifically!

Either left or right side down, the 2 most important aspects are neck neutrality, and hip symmetry.

Do not leverage the head to high or too low, and try to keep in line with the spine. You should also avoid curling the top leg to high in front of the bottom leg. Try and keep them both together to avoid asymmetry in the hips and leading to lower back pain!\

Ever notice a deep ache or tightness on the inside of your thigh—especially when walking, running, or getting back into workouts? That discomfort often comes from the adductor muscles, which work hard to stabilize your hips and legs throughout the day. When they get overworked, they can tighten up and create those stubborn “knots” that just won’t seem to go away.

In this quick video, we show a simple foam-rolling technique you can do at home to gently calm those muscles and help them move and feel better over time. Start slow, be patient with your body, and let it adapt. Small, consistent steps like this can go a long way toward keeping you active and comfortable doing the things you enjoy.

Believe it or not!

The glutes can be one of the most under-utilized units of muscle in the body. Controlled mobilizations with isometrics and concentrics are very helpful to force contraction of the tissue for stabilization or for movement. If you didn’t know they were working, you soon will! Do you have bad posture? Struggle with keeping your body and chest open?

The corner stretch is a great way to open up the muscles in the front of the torso that we shorten when we have poor posture.

Like most other stretches, this should be done with a lesser intensity, and a longer period of time. Allow the muscles to slowly open and they will respond more efficiently!

Tightness in your hip or low back? Sitting too long for work?

This stretch is a simple, yet effective way to release tightness and discomfort that builds up in your lower back and hips when you sit for long periods of time!

In a seated position, lift one foot onto the other knee. Then, with a straight spine, lean forward at the waist until you feel the stretch. Simple as that!

This should be done with low intensity and for longer periods of time to engage the muscle in the proper fashion
