When people start talking about โ€œreal masculinity,โ€
I think about men like Fred Rogers and LeVar Burton.

Men who sat down with children.
Men who read stories.
Men who taught us about feelings.
Men who made kindness look strong.

They werenโ€™t loud.
They werenโ€™t cruel.
They werenโ€™t afraid of gentleness.

They were steady.
They were thoughtful.
They were brave enough to care.

Our boys deserve to know this:

You can be gentle and still be strong.
You can be patient and still be powerful.
You can love books, art, music, learning โ€”
and still be completely, fully a man.

Masculinity is not a cage.
Itโ€™s not anger.
Itโ€™s not dominance.

Itโ€™s character.
Itโ€™s integrity.
Itโ€™s how you use what you have to make the world safer and kinder for others.

Letโ€™s raise boys who know that empathy is strength.
That education is strength.
That protecting others doesnโ€™t mean controlling them.
That kindness is never weakness.

Thatโ€™s the kind of masculinity children need to see.

Cuddled up with my youngest and our basket of library books today ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿ“š

While flipping through the stack, I made the best surprise discovery โ€” completely by chance, Moo had grabbed a PLANETS cookbook last time we were at the library! ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ•

Guess what? Itโ€™s part of a whole space-themed series. ๐Ÿš€โœจ

โœจ๐ŸŒŽ PLANETARY PARADE ALERT! ๐ŸŒŽโœจ

Did you know sometimes the planets look like theyโ€™re lining up in the sky? ๐Ÿคฏ

Itโ€™s called a planetary parade โ€” and you can see some of them WITHOUT a telescope!

๐Ÿ‘€ Look for:
โญ Venus (super bright!)
โญ Jupiter (big and glowing!)
โญ Mars (a little reddish!)

Fun fact: They donโ€™t make a perfect line โ€” they just look lined up from where we stand on Earth ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’ซ

If your little astronomers want to learn more, weโ€™ve been loving:
๐Ÿ“– A Childโ€™s Introduction to the Night Sky by Michael Driscoll
๐Ÿ“– My First Book of Planets: All About the Solar System for Kids by Dr. Bruce Betts
๐Ÿ“– Astronomy for Kids: How to Explore Outer Space with Binoculars, a Telescope, or Just Your Eyes! by Bruce Betts, PhD
๐Ÿ“– National Geographic Kids: Planets by Elizabeth Carney

Perfect reads before heading outside to look up โœจ๐ŸŒŒ

๐Ÿ’› Communication is for EVERYONE โ€” no matter what it looks like.

Some people write.
Some people type.
Some people spell.
Some people use AAC.
Some people use Braille.
Some people use music.
Some people use sign.

All of it counts. All of it is real. All of it is connection. ๐Ÿ’ฌโœจ

These beautiful books help kids see that there are so many ways to say what we mean:

๐Ÿ“š More Than Words: So Many Ways to Say What We Mean by Roz MacLean
๐Ÿ“š This Is How We Talk: A Celebration of Disability and Connection by Jessica Slice & Caroline Cupp (illustrated by Kayla Harren)

Letโ€™s raise kids who donโ€™t just โ€œacceptโ€ differences โ€” but celebrate them.

๐Ÿ’› Step outside your comfort zone this week and start a conversation with someone who communicates differently than you. Listen. Learn. Connect.

Because communication belongs to everyone!! ๐Ÿฉต

๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ’› Our bookshelf is basically a Nikkolas Smith () gallery at this point โ€” and we are not mad about it.

Bold art. Honest history. Big conversations made kid-friendly.

These are the kinds of stories that grow brave, thoughtful readers. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ“š

โœจ๐ŸŒŽ LOOK UP! ๐ŸŒŒโœจ

On February 28, something super cool is happening in the sky!

Many of the planets in our solar system will be visible at the same time in a special event called a planetary parade. ๐Ÿช

You might spot bright planets like Venus, Jupiter, and Mars with just your eyes โ€” and with binoculars, you may see even more!

All you need is a clear sky and a little time outside after sunset. ๐ŸŒ™

This wonโ€™t happen again for 14 yearsโ€ฆ so donโ€™t forget to look up! ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ’ซ

Thank you

Poetry is powerful. It helps us feel, dream, remember, and imagine a better world. During Black History Month (and all year long!), we can celebrate the voices of incredible Black poets who turned their words into change.

From Langston Hughes reminding us to keep climbing, to Amanda Gorman inspiring us to rise, these poems are full of courage, hope, truth, and BIG feelings.

๐Ÿ“šโœจ Try reading one together as a family.
๐Ÿ’ฌ Ask your kids: Which line stood out to you? Why?
๐ŸŽค Bonus: Let them perform their favorite part!

Words matter. Stories matter. Voices matter. ๐Ÿ–ค

Before you may have seen pictures of the Black Panther Party, they were helping their neighborhoods in powerful ways.

The Black Panther Party started in 1966 because they believed something important:
Itโ€™s hard to learn, grow, or feel free if youโ€™re hungry or sick.

So they helped in real, practical ways.

They created a Free Breakfast for Children Program, feeding thousands of kids before school each week. ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿฅž
Teachers noticed kids were more focused.
Families felt supported.

They also opened free community health clinics where people could get:
โ€ข Basic medical care
โ€ข Health checkups
โ€ข Sickle cell testing
โ€ข Health education

They believed strong communities start with caring for people.

Sometimes history only shows one side of a story. We love learning about the helpers, the organizers, and the ways people worked to make their communities stronger. ๐Ÿ’›

One of our favorite books to learn more is:

๐Ÿ“š The ABCs of the Black Panther Party
by Chemay Morales-James and S. Khalilah Brann

It introduces this history in a way kids can understand and talk about together.

Learning about history helps us understand how people have worked for fairness, care, and community. And thatโ€™s something worth knowing. โœจ

๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’› Happy ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š

Today we celebrate the helpers. The huggers. The snack-makers. The homework-helpers. The late-night checkers. The people who show up every single day to love and care for children.

Caregivers come in so many beautiful forms โ€” moms, dads, grandparents, aunties, foster parents, older siblings, babysitters, teachers, and chosen family. Every family looks a little different, but what matters most is that children know they are safe, supported, and deeply loved.

One of our favorite books that captures this so sweetly is Who Takes Care of You? by Hannah Eliot. This tender, inclusive board book reminds little ones that whether thereโ€™s one caregiver, two, or many โ€” love is what makes a family. ๐Ÿ’›

National Caregivers Day is also a gentle reminder: if you are the caregiver, you matter too. Please donโ€™t forget to care for yourself the way you care for everyone else. You deserve rest, support, and love just as much.

To every caregiver out there โ€” thank you for all that you do. The world is better because of you. ๐ŸŒŽโœจ

In February 2026, something pretty amazing happened! ๐ŸŒŽโœจ

Lunar New Year, Ramadan, and Lent all began within the same 24 hours โ€” something that hasnโ€™t happened in 163 years!

That means billions of people around the world started special seasons of celebration, reflection, and prayer at almost the exact same time.

Different traditions.
Different cultures.
Different ways of celebrating.

But all sharing a moment to pause, grow, and hope together. ๐Ÿ’›

Here are three beautiful books that help children explore these meaningful seasons:

โœ๏ธ Elijahโ€™s Easter Suit
Written by Brenton Jackson
Illustrated by Emmanuel Boateng

๐Ÿฎ Boys Donโ€™t Fry
Written by Kimberly Lee
Illustrated by Charlene Chua

โ˜ช๏ธ The House Without Lights
Written by Reem Faruqi
Illustrated by Nadia Alam

Stories help children see the world โ€” and see each other โ€” with curiosity, compassion, and joy.
