Why do we gather when someone we love passes away?

Because when everything else feels out of control, being together helps us breathe again. Sharing stories, tears, and even laughter brings a little order back to the chaos of loss.

It’s how we remind each other that we’re not alone.

Let’s settle this, Christmas Vacation style!
We all have that one dish at the holiday table that makes us do what Clark Griswold did when Cousin Eddie showed up… smile politely and pray someone else eats it first.

So tell us, what’s your least favorite holiday dish?
🍰 The fruitcake that could stop traffic?
🍒 Aunt Bethany’s mystery Jell-O?
🥘 Or maybe that “famous” casserole no one’s brave enough to touch?

Bonus points if you have an Uncle Eddie in your family who proudly brings it every year.

Drop your answer below and make us laugh. We could all use a little Griswold cheer this season.

So many memories live within these walls.

Families have come here to cry, to laugh, and to remember. There have been quiet moments of goodbye and stories that brought smiles through tears.

This place holds it all. It is where love shows up in its realest form, through grief, through memories, and through the people who gather to honor someone they love.

Do you still send Christmas cards?

Some families keep the tradition alive every year, while others have traded stamps for social media greetings.

We’d love to know if you are team “mail them out early,” “last-minute sender,” or “I just love getting them.”

Drop a 🎄 below and tell us your tradition.

Our Story

Hooper Funeral Homes has been serving Citrus County since 1946. Originally started as Conrad-Morris and then Porter Funeral Home, Lowell Hooper moved to Inverness in 1970 and began serving his community through 4 decades of service. With a passion to better serve the entire county, two branch locations where added in Beverly Hills and Homosassa in the 1970's. All of the properties have been remodeled through the years including the addition of a crematory on the Inverness property in 1980 and the new Homosassa Chapel construction in 1990. Mr. Hooper passed away in 2009 and our daily operations are now overseen by the second generation, Dwight Hooper. We take great pride in being the "Best of the Best" as voted by the readers of the Citrus County Chronicle for many years and invite you to stop by to answer any of your questions or simply to take a tour of our crematory or other facilities.
