Update: April 24, 2023
Craig recovered nicely from his March 21 colostomy surgery, however during the night of March 29 he was transferred to ICU. He developed a infection related to his trach. He continues to receive iv antibiotic for this infection. During his ICU stay, the Dr. was direct about his condition. He would continue to be in a cycle of infection for the rest of his life. Along with all his layers of care and his immobility of his right side. He was in ICU for 7 days, then sent to med floor for 5 days. On April 10 he was sent to 4th floor where the Ltac(long term acute care) hospital is. Yes, a hospital within MercyOne in DSM. He was on this floor back in October 14 to November 23, 2022.
So today he continues to be stable, however his quality of life has declined with this last infection.
Craig has done all he can to regain something of his physical and cognitive self over these last 7 months. We as a family have searched and used all avenues we could to give him his best chance.
What remains for him is to be trauma free and to be at peace. He will begin to receive comfort care the last weekend in April.
Visits are welcomed, if you want or need. Continue your prayers and positive thoughts for comfort and peace. Know that we are very grateful for all and everything.
