This is fascinating (and unsurprising)...70% of your immune system lives in your gut...the more diverse gut flora, the overall healthier you are as a human being, and the more you an ward off the icky bugs. Common fermented foods here in the U.S. you can easily find at the grocery store are: yogurts, kefir, traditional saurkraut, miso, kimchi, and veggies/pickles.
PRO TIP (and if you'd like instructions on how to make your own, i'll find some!) but with all of the produce of the summer, it is SO EASY to make your own fermented veggies. if you have 1) a big jar 2) water that's been boiled 3) salt, you have everything you need to ferment your own within 24-48 hours. nature is so cool.
